Something is Killing the Children

Boom’s business model: release 5 issues, then hiatus for 4 months. During those 4 months, deluxe deluxe slipcase foil metal deluxe 23rd printing of deluxe books from 2 deluxe years ago.

I’m usually ok with them pushing this stuff in new ways. And I do dig the Mack covers. Wish they were covers for second prints of 16-20, since I don’t think any of those got 2nds. And $8/issue is steep.

Suppose to originally be only an 8 issue series I thought…

Hey if it stayed at 5 or 8 issues we’d probably still be getting reprints. Probably even more

Not sure why people get all emotional about this. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Move on.

I actually like the Mack covers, as in a big Mack fan. Tempted by TFAW $28. Just over $5 per book. Not terrible.

And maybe Mack will also do other covers if this is a hit, which I’m sure it will be. Not a bad thing.

it says 1 of 3 so theres gonna be more
“the first of three ‘Slaughter Packs.’”

Hope they continue the Mack attack! That’d make for a pretty sweet set of 1-15. Better than that slip case, IMO.

I just like David Mack’s artwork and have said how he’s one of the nicest creators I’ve ever met at a con.

I’m super cool with these David Mack covers but I think he can do better getting weird with composition and the colors. Look at his previous works:

Sandman and other Gaiman books may be a bit of an outlier for Mack’s work. He’s specifically alluding to the history of mixed media covers in Gaiman’s Sandman run with those covers I think.

Guys drawn the same cover 200 times just erases the head draws a new one collects a check

Hey, if people keep buying, why not right?

Do you guys think issue #10 is a good spec? First full appearance of main bad guy. It hasn’t blown up in price yet… or last time I checked. I think it has big potential when the Netflix show hits.

If I can recall, issues #1-9 had relatively lower print runs and issue #10 had a higher print run. Issues #11 onwards are full bonkers mode. I think any early printings of issues #1-10 are great to have even if they aren’t keys.

Alright all. I got issues 2-6 for a great price. Sell now for a tidy profit or hold them? Maybe at least sell issue 5 as it is weirdly more pricey? The money from it should cover the rest, I think.

I say deal with the wait and grade them so you have slabs when a trailer or more news drops in a year. especially 4, 5 and 6. I’d say sell 2 and 3 raw now if you want to recoup some loot.

Those last 3 are low print, 5 and 6 never got a 2nd print and there are multiple cameos and and first full appearances in these issues. 6 has the first full app or Aaron, Cecilia, and the Order of St George. The 1:25 Frison is considered the rarest book, which I would assume makes 6 the lowest print run or close. #5 has a couple cameos, but it’s really just the best cover of the entire series to most people and must own for some.

Yeah, issue 5 has been pricey for a while now. I think people started catching on to the series after 5, so the print run (my guess) started trending back in the right direction after 5.

Once it hit double digits, it started taking off. The printing disaster of issue 12 killed the value of that issue. Bummer, as Momoko’s 1:25 might be her best cover IMO. 16-20 had higher print runs, and are pretty common finds on shelves.

I think prices overall have dropped a bit. I have a 1 3rd print CGC 9.8, so I’ve watched that value for a while. Peaked around $500, but is now more in the $400 range.

I agree. Hold for now.

I appreciate these suggetions. I will possibly fight the urge to sell for a quick profit.

You should hold them until the next news and price spike at least. I have graded copies of 1-7 first prints and i’m waiting.

I can’t imagine it won’t take more than a few months for some kind of media news again about this title.

I traded my 1-8 for a venom 7 crain signed and slabbed. I’m happy with it. Should I have waited? Probably.

This is the 1st comic that I picked up when I got back into collecting comics. My friend was looking for the 1st issue. He asked me if there were any comic book stores near me. There was on the way to work. I walked in and found the last #1.
