Star Wars: The High Republic

That’s good. I just wanted to state my perspective that I wasn’t defending them. I have no problems with civil conversation and fully support it.

Plate change fees and other fees that are covered under publishers Do Not Disclose contracts that are not discussed. Publishers, like Marvel especially, do not want people talking about the process including total printed copies. That’s part of the reason stores do not fully disclose “print runs”. For example an artist and writer get comp copies of the exclusives. Marvel, for example, does not eat that cost. They pass it on to the store. There are all sorts of things like that that add to cost.

When I had access to Stadium Comics’ inside info for their store variants, which admittedly was 3 years ago so things could have changed (however, if they have changed, I don’t believe they have drastically changed), there was not all this supposed secrecy. Yes, contracts are not to be made public, but that is not exclusive to the comic book industry. Most contracts are private. Having said that, even if they do a plate change for the 2nd cover, is that fee really so exorbitant that it raises the per unit wholesale cost from $2.80 per to $5-$7 per? I don’t think so. Even if it does cost a shop $5 per book wholesale, does that justify selling them for $75 to your customers? That is up to each customer, but I think it’s a ludicrous mark up. This was the original point, before we got into the specifics.

Absolutely not. $75 is outrageous. But that’s were “perceived scarcity” comes into play. The “we will destroy X amount of copies so only Y amount will be for sale”. Speaking of which was that video of the destruction ever released?

One of the deciding factors in when I did site exclusives was price point. When I would release a book I looked at charging $9.99 shipped. At the time shipping was a lot less but the most expensive I ever did may have been $12.99 shipped. That took into account several things, making the price point attractive to guys buying them and making enough to cover the costs of the books plus other costs like bags and boards and mailers, to make a small profit. I wasn’t trying to get rich off them. I was also doing exclusives before many of the bigger exclusives sites came on board. The dynamics changed and it was harder for me to commission new books as many were being taken up by others. My good friend Jon Clark has a book coming out from Scout. Now he is a childhood friend. So I would have loved to do an exclusive but shops like Frankie’s and others are doing ones for it I just don’t want to compete with. They changed the way the exclusives were done.

No. Those videos are never made, or released. And tbh, I don’t think the customers care, as the customers don’t hold these shops to their word. If the internet tells them it’s a rare comic book that you must buy, then it must be true. :man_shrugging::v:

The video of them burning the books has been burned as well.

While I absolutely can respect that personal decision you’ve made, it may of changed the way you approach doing your exclusive variants, Tony, it did not fundamentally change the way store variants are contracted out, nor did it change the pricing structure drastically, if at all. More competition in the market doesn’t fundamentally change the process overall. M2c. :v:

I think you could be correct about adventures. Not being the main title hurts, but the supply could be a huge factor.

I hope he is correct, I put most of my eggs in Adventures. Don’t see how they could bring in a character in HR3 unless he is in a cameo on the last page…

It pushed people out from doing them. Let’s just say that. Publishers changed who they offered artists to and give preference on some books to certain stores. So yeah, in some cases it changed the way they were done. I do not speak in absolutes and would be happy to discuss offline what I mean but trust me on that.

Welcome, Mig!

I agree. It would be a whiplash of direction change from the story in HR3 for Ro to show up.

HRA2 is the favored odds right now.

And if nothing else, the HRA 2 cover is really nice.

True that Cover A with the blue background looks really nice better than the 1:10 ratio imo.

Thanks bud, it good to gain some knowledge from the legends…

Nope and I think they’re likely just waiting it out long enough so yes, people forget and then no longer care. It’s a reason I will bring it up every chance I get until I see the video proof of them destroying each and every copy, counted out as they promised there would only be exactly 600 copies of each cover.

Come on ComicBookExclusives, show us the proof! Sending out #1 issues that are coverless are not proof. For all we know, you bought 600 regular copies with your order to rip the covers off to send as “reader” copies passing them off as the exclusive covers…

Until proof is shown, ComicBookExclusives just got away with the biggest comic book scam so far in 2021…

There are a bunch of sales on ebay of the star wars high republic comicbook exclusives variant ranging from $400-900 bucks. Geeez who are buying these books.

Morons… with clearly too much disposable money in their bank accounts.

Those ComicBookExclusives people knew what they were doing, they’re gonna slowly offload them all based on LIES! And honestly, if anyone is dumb enough to spend $900 on this book, they deserve to lose $900 on said book…
