I guess the reason I don’t feel this is a pump and dump is because the series has potential and SA#1 will be much higher years from now. Everything he wrote in that article seems to be accurate and his premise seems well laid out. He even gives the book a B- based on volume printed.
" While the demand for Strange Academy#1 is obvious, it is possible the volume will kill the possibility of an astronomical return on investment.
Final grade for Demand: B- because high demand is impacted by five print runs."
However, if you feel it is a pump and dump, why not sell your 40 copies now?
If you aren’t selling, then you probably feel the same way.
I think the series has been subpar at best, as for introducing new characters every couple issues I don’t recall that when reading the series. Outside of #1 I think #9 has a few first appearances of some of the parents don’t see anything else of importance. I’ve had a 1:50 cgc graded copy and a raw 1:25 up for sale at competitive prices for over a year and neither has sold or had very many watchers, so I wouldn’t say the series is hot or sought after by any means based off my own inability to sell the chase variants. The last Strange Academy book for me to sell was #3 1:25 at a $5 profit when it came out. I don’t know what makes people think this will go to Disney+ when there is also a Avengers academy with a bunch of new characters and a mutants academy with a bunch of new characters that both predate this Strange academy by a decade. Both older academies were dollar bin fodder until recently as well. I will order a couple #15s but I’ve already given up on this series.
I like the series, and the characters, and I’m hoping they have long term plans for it, but if not, at least I’m enjoying it right now.
I have an entire short box full, some slabs, and probably a bunch of singles I ordered that are mixed in the rest of my collection (yes I need to get organized). As I’m not as versed in older comics / characters as some, I really enjoy when a character I don’t recognize pops up and I get to go look up their story, and who they are. So I guess I’m reading it in a different context than an old timer comic collector. Everyone has different tastes, and I respect that.
Other than some junk comics I’ve sold at a garage sale, I don’t sell mine. I am 51 now and figure selling my comics online will be my “retirement job”. It will keep me busy and give me another source of income. And if I kick the bucket early, my wife is going to have one hell of an estate sale.
Maybe by that time, Strange Academy will be in it’s 3rd season on Disney+.
Let’s just hope it’s better than the first 3 seasons of Runaways which is also a group of teens with powers put out by Disney, because Runaways #1 goes for less than strange academy #1 these days.
if disney makes strange academy it will be a cartoon like moon girl. ive always looked at it like characters from rebels or clone wars. you need it to be a hit cartoon first to have any chance of live action
The big thing with, “Runaways,” and all those other shows is they don’t actually, “Count,” in the MCU spec. That makes them worthless to a lot of people. Until something happens to change things, the Netflix shows, Agents of SHIELD, Ruanways, and all of those don’t count. They take place in the MCU according to them, but the MCU doesn’t acknowledge them. With multiverses and stuff this could change, but for now…yeah. Oh, and I already know @Alana is going to claim I’m wrong and they all, “Count,” but until something proves me wrong this is the hill I will die on.
Exactly. Thank you, Kevin. The, “Loki,” show could have even acknowledged Phil wasn’t dead, but was careful to leave him dead during that review of Loki’s life in the first episode.
Can you elaborate on #14 and #15, please ? I am still lost on why #13 is desired, except for the supposed rarity of the Adams cover. Ebay is not showing much movement on #13, WHEN I checked. Thanks !
Has the ship already sailed too far for issue #1? If I bought a slabbed 9.8 in the low $300 range, would there be any upside left? I hate paying big bucks for recent moderns, but some do shoot up to the $1k range.
