The Midtown Thread

Just got some random emails giving me credit for some pre-ordered books. I haven’t bought anything from Midtown for almost 2 years. Not sure what I’m going to do with these credits, wish they would just refund to my card that’s on file… Hmmm…

the current sale has Sgt Fury #1 in VG for $900, marked down from $1500. if midtown was still grading as conservatively as they had for years this buy would be a no-brainer, as you could have expected at least a 5.0, but lately their back issue grading has been frustratingly inconsistent.

If you’ve been to their Times Square store, you’d know why.

Has any international users here ordered from Midtown before? I’m from Canada and the only delivery option for me for 25 comics is international priority which is $82. I don’t know why it’s so much more than other places like DCBS and other places, usually it’s around $26 which I can stomach. Apparently Midtown doesn’t use UPS or Fedex for international orders.

I then lower my order down to 18 comics and there’s an option for international priority flat rate envelope for $31 but I think that’s a mistake. I don’t know how they’re going to fit 18 comics into a flat rate envelope. Their faq says the comics could come damaged and there’s nothing they can do. I tried contacting Midtown and they were no help.

Any international users here order from Midtown before and what were your experiences?

thankfully midtown seems to have returned to their long-standing conservative grading practices (hopefully it stays that way). just received 5 silver age avengers books each listed as VG and they’re all really nice mid-grades, from 5.0-7.0 i’d say. got em for <$15 each to boot.

it may have been too soon to declare midtown’s grading back to normal

They were quite clear with the label. “F” stands for “Finger included.”

Man I am absolutely livid with Midtown. Made an account and made my first order. A small one just to test it out as I heard of the horror stories about their shipping. I just got my order back and it was worse than I could imagine. Has to be the most shoddy packaging I’ve ever seen and I order quite frequently online. All my books came with a corner crunch that goes through the whole book on the top and bottom.

I’m usually polite when I have an issue with an online retailer but I just sent them a scathing email asking for a full refund. I’m going to see what they say but I am so close to contacting paypal to have them take care of it if I get an unsatisfactory resolution.

My frustration comes from the packaging as it looked like a child put it together. Basically if you’ve ever gotten a comic in the mail before in a manila envelope and a comic inside with no padding. Now imagine a hole was ripped to make it fit to add more comics. This is what I would expect from non comic book people mailing your comics on ebay, not one of the biggest online comic book dealers in the world. So angry.

Sorry to hear this … they didn’t use a comic mailer box? Never had an order that comics were damaged yes boxes were beat up but not destroyed.

They didn’t use a box because they had to ship it internationally (Canada) so they shipped it in an envelope. It was only for 18 comics so I was wondering how they were going to ship it. They charged me $32 for the delivery. I order from the US all the time and everyone ships it in a box. I don’t know which comic shop would think it’s ok to ship out 18 comics stuffed into an envelope and think that’s ok.

Every order I’ve had from midtown shipped in a Gemini or similar mailer. I’m shocked.

Oh wow now I see why you are super angry. This is def not how I received books from them its always in a small comic mailer or box for bigger orders.

Someone in shipping really messed up. You deserve full refund.
