Thor Love and Thunder

If it makes bank Disney won’t care. “Jurassic World: Dominion,” was absolutely slaughtered by reviewers and made all the monies.

And what’s funny is Top Gun Maverick was killing the new releases for weeks. God that was a good, fun, exciting, and inspiring movie.

My kid loves dinosaurs and Jurassic Park/World. My only review of seeing the latest Jurassic World film is, I’m glad he enjoyed it…

Haven’t seen it yet. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it as I try not to be overly critical. I see quite a bit about how much humor is in it though.
For me personally, I’m ok with films “not” being humorous. I sometimes think the story gets lost in the efforts to be overly witty.
I suppose the effort is made to make these films family friendly, but, in attempts to capture the attention of all audiences, a film can suffer.
I believe there is plenty of room for a dark, gritty Marvel film along with everything else. I’m hoping the Blade film, or the Halloween special can start filling that void. One of the reasons I enjoyed the Infinity war films as the threat/risk/somber tone was certainly present.

I’ve never thought of Thor/the mythological Gods as being “funny”. Petty, bickering, hypocritical, vengeful, and all that…but not really funny. An element of naivety in some cases I suppose as well. Mythological stories are generally pretty darn dark, cruel, and somber–regardless of which culture they originated from.
Sorry, just rambling via written text.
From what I’ve seen with leaks, I’m good with just one of the end credit scenes (again though, if it creates a good, true conflict–not silliness.)

As an aside–I’m apparently one of the very few that felt Top Gun was overhyped and not nearly as good as word of mouth suggested. Pretty film with fun visuals, but I think it benefits simply from memories of days gone by and wishful longing by a vast majority of my generation who snuggled with their sweethearts in the drive in theatre watching it and drinking Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill.

Ya I didnt love it but I enjoyed it. If this is as good as that I will be happy. They cant just get progressively better. Some will be great, some will be ok, and on rare occasions they will be bad.

Endgame: “Hey, Pepper, I figured out time travel! All I needed was a montage!”

I mean, come on. We need to give these films a little leeway here.

I think it’s a much better film than DS2, just tonally it’s not necessarily what people want, and suffers by comparison to Ragnarok.

Eternity!

I loved the flash of Living Tribunal we got in Dr. Strange.

I’m seeing Strange Tales #138 move a little more than normal on Ebay.

I enjoyed it. My one major gripe is that I wish we could’ve gotten more of Gorr butchering gods.

Jason Aaron’s run on Thor God of Thunder is one of the best storylines written ever! Period!! I’d love to of seen the film more closely adapted to the source material. I haven’t seen the movie yet but it sounds like it’s got a lot of humor in it which doesn’t fit the storyline. Especially if they give Jane cancer as well.

Gotta say this one was on the lower end of Marvel movies for me, unfortunately.

Taika made a lot of odd choices in my opinion.

I would’ve liked some more development but I guess we’ll see after that ending? Giving me Obi-Wan vibes ya know? Don’t get me wrong it DEFINITELY had some really funny parts and heartfelt parts. Some parts were underwhelming. Bale had moments I liked and moments I rolled my eyes. With that being said I do look forward to the next chapter in the story. I’m a VERY tough critic so take all my opinions with that in mind.

Well, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the movie. My family also enjoyed it for the most part.
We sort of hovered around the 6 to 7 out of 10 largely because it was at least entertaining.

I’m starting to think that Disney/Marvel has simply made the decision to play everything safe. To create movies that have broad stroke appeal to everyone and that this approach and the money it makes is a better route than shooting for creating great films that perhaps appeal to less but are just better stories.
At this point, I’m doubtful of anything capturing the magic that the whole Avengers line of films brought. Perhaps I just expect too much I suppose.

Maybe they aren’t wrong though in their take. I’ve already seen some review/critique where a fellow mentioned he “walked out” with his kids because of the word “orgy” being used in the film. (and it’s PG-13 to begin with). If that is the non-nonsensical pearl clutching they have to deal with…I guess I get it.

I just can’t help feeling bummed out that such an incredible story and villain were sort of wasted. Doesn’t make sense to me.

MCU movies, as of late, are in deep need of a jolt of originality that begins with storytelling.

It seems every movie since Infinity/Endgame, the best we get is “It was alot of fun” (and certainly below that for sure).
What is Feige going to do to get from “it was alot of fun” to “damn, that movie hit me”.?

I am growing increasingly concerned.

I loved it. Lots of fun.

Well they could start by not making them all one off films with just a few characters in them. They either need to go back to world building and build back up the Avengers so that we get some good multi part ensemble movies (like Endgame) or start building up the new characters by just themselves. This Thor could have just been Jane Foster’s movie with a cameo by Hemsworth, leading to her being the new Thor in the new Avengers. Right now nothing seems connected and when it does it doesn’t go anywhere. Even Doctor Strange 2 electric boogaloo while fun, killed all the characters we were there to see… Now Thor 4 does the same thing with Jane
