Thor Love and Thunder

I think they’ll do the Jane Foster storyline, but replace the Mangog with Gorr. Same beats in terms of cancer, needing to stop being Thor, making the choice to sacrifice herself to stop Gorr, etc. And then maybe leave it open at the end - Valhalla - as to whether she comes back in the future.

I could see that working.

I just hope they dont make Gorr a throwaway character for the movie - the comic was epic. Same goes for the Thor-Jane storyline. These could have been epic as standalone movies.

He is kinda a throw away character he’s only ever appeared in Thor and King Thor, I think he has a panel in Venom #4 origin of Knull. 14 total appearances 13 Thor, 1 Venom.

I wouldnt say throwaway in the comics, I would say few appearances, which IMO is a good thing so that he was not overused. My point is that the story was great in the comic books - he’s definitely not Batroc the Leaper. The character and the story deserve justice in the movie; theres a lot of potential till he gets overused.

I think there’s a ton of concern here after a teaser trailer where they just show snippets of the film without giving much context. There hasn’t even been an official reveal of Gorr. The good news is, Doctor Strange comes out in a few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if a full trailer is tagged on as a post credit where we’ll see more. Even then, no point in being concerned. This is the studio that weaved many characters and many story subplots in Infinity War and Endgame flawlessly!

I agree ! Will wait to see more - trailer and movie. Just worried. I feel that these storylines could easily fit into a two or three parter, and should to do them justice.

I don’t know that I agree with the sentiment of Gorr being a “throw away” character so to speak. To that end, any character/protagonist in any story whose narrative comes to a close could therefore be deemed a “throw away” character.

Gorr’s origin and machinations are very well defined and established. Actually, his role as a valid antagonist pretty effectively checks all of the boxes by which even literature defines the very role.

Was he defeated…certainly, but this is typically the most suitable and archetypical end to most famous antagonists. From Grendel, to Agamemnon, to the Minotaur, to the White Witch, wicked witch, to Voldemort. An eleven issue run in a comic solely focused on the challenge of defeating Gorr is actually pretty impressive imo.

Just may take on him. I’m a bit of a fan boy of that run and Gorr though. One of my favorites reads of all time relative to comics.

I too hope Gorr isn’t handled as a throw away. The Gorr storyline seems like it could be pretty big. Should be anyway. I wonder if it will spill over to other movies.

I just hope I can sell my copy of GoT 2 at a good price before the movie debuts.

I have no faith the character has longevity in the MCU because, as Alana pointed out, he has not been used much in the comics. Which is really odd.

They made Red Skull a throw away character and he probably has the most appearances in comics as a villain. Sure they brought him back for a small cameo but pretty much was a one and done character. Just like every villain but Thanos has been a one and done in the MCU I don’t think Gorr will be any different.

Oh, I definitely agree and believe he will be treated in the film/films differently than he was in the comics. To that extent I definitely have to believe he will end up a throw away character (sadly).
Give me his back story as presented in the comic and I’m good. Some of the best villains are those that you can sort of side with (to a degree).
Maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised!!!

When I mean throwaway in the movies, I mean treat him with a good story and do the character justice. I dont mean that he is going to be an ongoing villain in the movies; I understand comics dont translate that way into movies. Maybe if there is a TV series …
As an example, Crossbones, Klaw, and Taskmaster were’nt treated well in the movies, as well as they are represented in comics - thats what I consider a throwaway in the movies. I do feel that they did justice to Thanos, Dr. Octopus, and to some extent the Green Goblin (major characters). Red Skull is a mixed bag; so is Baron Zemo. And characters like Batroc, etc. I couldn’t care about.

I should have been more clear about my characterization …

It’s really hard to do a villain justice in just one movie. Unfortunately. Unless the movie is about the villain more than the hero.

I really, really wanted Jason Aaron’s run on Thor: God of Thunder to be epic like it was in the comics.

Anyone got an idea of when we could expect a full trailer? I’m assuming we’ll get a darker, more Gorr-orientated full trailer - which would seem like a better time to sell my GoT #2 variants. Any chance of it being a CinemaCon release, or will they keep it for the end of Doctor Strange?

I wonder if we might get a Doctor Strange end scene introducing Gorr, and then a full trailer a few weeks after that?
