I was going off what CGC has on the label. I’ll have to check out the book you mentioned.
I thought that was Grail as a baby appearance only?
Never go with their labels. They’re just a short description of the book itself and in no way any way officials on firsts, etc.
A few more that couldn’t be passed up but first a lot of books with a few newsstands in it. Funny story is I offered him $40 for the set and he declined it. I ended up wining via auction for $22. Guess maybe he should’ve accepted my offer.
I will always buy the Black Widow books if the price and condition are right. I’ve also been wanting to pickup the Marvel Boy series as it’s written by Grant Morrison and has a first appearance. $23.40 including shipping for the set.
I have trouble sleeping at night and often wake up at 3-4 am. I always check my saved searches until I get sleepy and I found this last night. $50 including shipping for the set.
The “Market” seems to have decided though that JL 40/41 is the Grail book to have, going for $15-20 each while the FCBD going for about $2-7
I’ve seen and heard a lot of analytical speculators talking about Elsa. Lots of potential there, Todd. I think $80 for set will still be a good deal when she hits the MCU. Welcome back, lol.
I shouldnt have to do this since we are all long time collectors/speculators, but here we go, again…
FCBD Divergence = 1st cameo/full app (1 panel appearance, shown and named) (street date 5/2/2015)
JL40 = 2nd app/cameo (1 panel appearance in the shadows) (street date 5/6/2015)
JL41 = 3rd app (street date 6/3/2015)
I’m not arguing what the cameo/full appearance is. 100% those are easily defined in this case. I’m just saying that despite the FCBD being the 1st app, most collectors ignore that book and go for JL40/41.
Don’t forget Forever Evil #7. She appears off panel via dialogue.
Marvel Boy was a great series. It was rumored to be a stealth, "Ultimate,’ book, then was thought to be its own Universe, then revealed to be 616. It was messy, but he’s cool.
I’d say 85-90% of my newsstand purchases aren’t labeled as such. Whether they don’t know or care I enjoy getting cheap books.
Won these for $1 each. I have several newsstand copies already but I like having multiples. It makes selling easier because I always have more copies.
These were all from the same seller and it was $25 altogether.
I understand if you don’t want to share you secrets/process, but I am curious about something. If a comic is not advertised as a newsstand as you said, how do you find them? Just looking at pictures when browsing for comics you want? Special eBay filters? Do tell if you’re willing!
No secrets or anything special. I spend hours daily looking through saved searches. Ranging from specific issues to as broad of categories as years. It’s just a matter of looking at the barcodes.
Another thing I like to do is find a seller who’s not listing the actual issues in the title of the listing. I then go through all their listings looking for any hidden gems. Most times I find stuff.
Any cheap copies of Infinity #4 I find I will almost always buy. $8 including shipping.
Same with Ghost Rider #28 which set me back around $15.
Wolverine #13 is a new book on my list and it contains the first appearance of The Native. Already picked up several copies including some newsstands. Two different sellers and a grand total of $6.32.
Picked up 3 copies of Strange Academy #1 4th Print. Paid $20 for all three. As well I’m going to be posting about by trip to the comic shop located at Destiny Mall in Syracuse (Used to be Carousel Mall. Which included some more Strange Academy Issues. It was a stock photo so I’m just not posting a pic of it. More stuff to post on here but There’s quite a few so I’m doing separate posts. Got a few sales as well coming up.
Mighty Avengers #21 is another new book on my list and I bought a newsstand and 5 copies of the direct edition edition. It contains a 5 page preview of Black Panther #1. Which has the first cover appearance of Shuri as BP. $13 for the newsstand and $9 for the others.
Speaking of Newsstands up next a set containing a few. X-men Emperor Vulcan #1-5, numbers 1,4,5 are Newsstands. $6.32 total.
Next Black Panther Annual #1. This contains an alternate universe in which Shuri takes up the BP Mantle for the first time. Predates any other firsts. $25 total and I feel I overpaid. I didn’t realize until after buying it was an alternate universe and not the 616.
I have more purchases but I’m holding off on posting until there at least in the mail.
A few sales recently and its getting easier to let some books go. I think I did pretty well. First up Invincible Iron Man #9 1st Print. I paid $15 for a lot of comics in which it was included. Sold it for $75. I was going to keep it but it has a stain near the top left front cover and a non color breaking corner impact crease on the top right front.
My next sale was for Spectre #54 which I got in another lot of comics for $25. I sold it for $45. It has dirt and an indentation near the top left.
My last most recent sale was my lowest copy of all new marvel now point one. Small Spine split at both top and bottom. I paid $30 and sold for $100.
Now my trip to an actual comic shop. I’m an introvert and never leave the house except for work. I’ve been a bit of a recluse for the past decade or so. So in an effort to get out more a trip to my local shop was planned.
Not planned very well because upon arrival we were told that no one was allowed in the shop but he could bring us what we wanted/needed outside. Well it was raining and browsing is difficult in those conditions. As well I don’t think he was going to start dragging out short boxes full of books to browse through.
That plan was scrapped so an hour long drive to Syracuse and the Destiny USA Mall for the only shop open in that mall. The shop was large with lots of space for browsing. These are all the books I bought and what I paid is on the price sticker on the bags.
When I lived in Upstate NY I would go to the Carousel Mall (now Destiny) often for fun.
