The material in Batman: Second Chances has been reprinted in DC’s newest collected line DC Finest so it doesn’t quite hold the same value as it used to.
DC has committed to keeping the new line evergreen (i.e. not going OOP) so the value on this trade paperback will continue to go down over time as more people switch over to collecting it’s contents in another format.
When I got my copy, it was $27. Paid for it with Amazon points so got it for free. Worth it even at these prices.
That series is so freaking good. Glad to see people are taking notice of it.
Brubaker is one of the greats and he and Phillips are a great duo when working together.
I bought 3 hard covers for $30 total with the intention of reading all three. Velvet, being one of the three, I knew had some resale value. I put it up on eBay at $75 and planned to read. It sold within 24 hours.
Brubaker and Phillips make great stuff. “The Fade-Out,” is my favorite of their collaborations I have read, with, “Sleeper,” being second, perhaps.
Well, the last few praises of Brubaker haven’t aged well…
Hate the creator, like their work though. If it’s true, that’s a damn shame.

I find it hard to believe that these days someone would treat others like that knowing it’ll eff up their entire career and livelihood.
Some people are just dirtbags in real life and no amount of fame or money will buy them class. In most cases it just makes them a worse human being.
