Leave my Mcfarlane Spiderman run alone !! that shit was dope!
Mike, 42k is a pretty low print run though. But, I get your point, if we add 10,000 copies to the equation that’s not a big deal. But, do we today?
We have no way of quantifying this, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Todd McFarlane single handily destroyed comics in the early 90s
It was from the era where millions were produced, was my point. Over supply killed this hobby. I just don’t want to see that happen again.
Now back to Venom 27…
Wow! I love this cover!
I don’t think we’re ever going to see that again for most comic titles. Lately it seems most books can’t even go over the 100k mark, only with the big reboot #1 from Marvel or DC.
I snagged a few. Why not. Nice cover.
And now your over ordering of Venom #27 3rd Prints will single handily kill the comics in the 2020’s
Lmfao. Too funny that I was ‘paged’ to come defend the Toddfather.
Well, here we go, lol…One could argue that Todd saved the comic book industry by starting Image, who then published TWD, who helped the comic industry considerably during those leaner times after that 90s bubble burst and Marvels bankruptcy in '99. Todd should make Kirkman put a banner, stating as much, at the top of the new TWD colour issues, imo.
I’d be interested to hear Alana’s argument as to how Todd single handily ruined comics in the 90s. I’ve not heard that one before.
I can’t speak for her but it wasn’t McFarlane. It was a lot of factors and I’m sure the fingers can be pointed at the publishers and the retailers for the implosion… like most markets, the bubble gets too big, there’s a pop and then a correction… It all started around Spider-Man #1 and all the variants though… then Spawn with it’s trillion copies…
X-men 1 and Jim Lee played a part but Spider-Man #1 and Spawn #1 killed comic collecting. I also blame die cut and foil covers.
The 90s were indeed special for comics.
Just for my Venom 27 topic and why it wont be heavily ordered as Venom said this from NyCollector cave on IG after I asked them about it.
I’m sorry, but that’s just good marketing. Nothing like creating urgency to make a sale.
This has been fun to read. Both sides of the discussion.
Just wanted to quickly say if not for the main site, I don’t know that I would’ve ordered my 3 copies of Venom #3 third print at the time. I’m certain if it wasn’t it’s own topic, someone made mention of it in the comments.
Also got on the Frison SIKTC #1 variant because of the Poyo FOC post. Both books are doing just fine =)
This forum has gained in popularity organically. A big part of that is free sharing of information, an eclectic group of contributors from all aspects of the business side and fan base, and contributors who are not pumper dumpers and really just want the hobby to thrive in an age where print is no longer king.
And to have a little fun.
Time and again pre FOC books have been spotlighted here and gone on to do well. SIKtC…Batman Beyond 37 come to mind and many have done well despite this.
But if there’s a movement to inorganically change the behaviors and attitudes on this site away from what’s made it popular…I fear it’s popularity will suffer, and if it’s so influential as some claim then that’s actually a very bad bad thing…
At least if print runs go up a little because of pre FOC talk it’s helping the shops who sell to Stay in business.
No evidence pre-FOC talk really matters in the big picture…shop’s get more money to keep running the business…we get some cool books…what’s the problem again?
Unless you’re basing your personal financial stability on pre-FOC and flipping comics (and that’s on you for making such life’s choices) I don’t see the problem,if anything I’d be concerned of the perception of CHU outside of here if the community here started holding back pre-FOC info en masse. It’d feel more like an Exclusive club with members only and the New members likely given the cold shoulder as they’d be here sent by other sites for espionage and reconnaissance.
In other words we don’t want Smeagles.
I agree.
I’ve participated in other online forums over the past 8-10 years, but exclusively stay here because of the community that’s been built. I appreciate everything that’s gone into making CHU what it is today.
Drogio, that’s a really good point. I bet this site drives a lot of sales for LCS’s and online shops. That is definitely a good thing for the hobby.
