I updated it, on the FCBD I had them listed as a 5 pack. I updated the listing.

A ratio for FCBD seems to defy logic.

What does that even mean? How can anything ruin FCBD?? Itā€™s free comics!!

Yeah I agree itā€™s still free comics. The benefit is that the store gets something special for promoting lots of comics. They still cost the stores money in time and labor.

I agree, I am thankful to the LCS for doing this. Some of the FCBD books are quite good, and I made some money on the free One-Punch Man books.
Some stores also couple this with a store sale, so it is a fun thing.

Tis why consumers should buy some merchandise at such store handing them free comics.

I get the ratio idea but itā€™s just doing what a lot of ratios do, make retailers act like consumers and order more copies of the free books just to qualify for the ratios.

I thought shop owners had to pay both shipping and the ā€œfree booksā€ cost money as well? At a deep discount, at least a shop I used to go to stated that they werenā€™t actually free to shop owners.

Yes. FCBD books I think are 25 cents or so I think (I might be wrong but itā€™s not your normal comic price) and yes, they pay shipping.

Why is shipping so much money?

Iā€™m in a unique position where I actually do work in the logistics / maritime / transportation industry and could give you a myriad of reasons why shipping has increase, but Iā€™m not sure thatā€™s the answer you are looking for.

Is there a specific shipping tier you are looking at? (i.e. 3 or 4 books) Or is it the larger quantity of books (30-40+)? Utilizing the HOLD Box feature you are charged essentially what we pay for shipping, with a slight increase to account for materials, labor, etc (usually amounts to a couple bucks extra). Iā€™m not sure any other shop does that.

Iā€™ve ordered lots and lots of books from many different shops, and I believe our shipping rates to be in line with the market. Of course, there will be differences, such as some places offering free shipping at a certain purchase amount, but Iā€™m not ready to turn that on yet. It takes a little tweaking to make sure we donā€™t hose ourselves and eat too much into our margin to where we canā€™t exist any longer. I donā€™t want this to happen as it would really hinder my dream of opening a really cool, not your normal comic shop (brick and mortar) here in Houston.

We are always open to criticism and if you could send me a DM with exactly which tier I could look into it and then take another look at the market to see if we are still competitive. Another job I had in my career was in the process improvement (Lean Six Sigma) field, in which I am always looking for a better way, in work and in life.

Sorry if this was a long answer, but I was feeling insightful today!

As long as you dont changing shipping preferences or tack on insurance, WITHOUT informing customers, Iā€™m good

If we charge insurance we eat that cost, and its usually on orders over $200-300. FedEx will reimburse up to $100 plus the shipping fee included in their Home Delivery rate, which I do not see the need to charge extra as most fall within that threshold.
