I dont think you should eat any cost, but you know your business model (and apparently have the experience to deal with it), and should set prices accordingly or adjust as you see fit. As a customer, I just need clarity on charges, and then make purchases accordingly. No clarity from the LCS-whos-name-should-not be-mentioned, leaves a bad taste in my mouth; still buy from them though for the variants and hope !
maybe a media mail option, for those who are cheap but dont mind longer shipping times
I thought media mail wasnt for comics ?
I canāt ship media mail as comics donāt fall into that category. Sorry, but we stopped doing this about a year and a half ago when we learned that it was illegal. We ship so many orders out a week that we would be found out rather quickly.
We have no secrets here. I based the model off of wanting to get the comics through the postal system as fast as possible to keep the packages from encountering too many ātouchesā, to reduce the risk of the items being damaged.
UPS delivers 10-20 packages a week to me, all ground, and it looks like they just toss them around. Most of the photos that I receive from the customers, Iām very happy with the condition the packages still look to be in. Its not 100% of the time, but the majority of the time. There is an entirely different set of costs associated with refunds, having to make a claim with FedEx, repacking / shipping the items (if we have them in stock), customer service, etc etcā¦so my view is cut it off right at the sourceā¦get the packages to you in good condition!
Iām not sure it costs more than other places as Iāve been surprised by how much some charge, and then I receive the package and am like, wowā¦they just made money off of me for shippingā¦ I definitely donāt like that feeling.
Considering the cost of materials, time, care and effort to package the books and the speed from which they get here on the East Coast from Texas, especially with the hold option, your shipping prices are very fair. I think I did the math for my last shipment and it came out to about extra 40-50 cents per book. Happy to pay that amount compared to some of shipping prices charged by other shops and receiving destroyed, dented books along with boxes/ envelopes, Geminis etc. Fingers crossed we are all not in for higher shipping prices come later this year with the high gas prices all around.
Please keep up the good work, its one of the reasons I moved my FOC from larger online shop to you.
Yeah thats another factor, how far away you live from us. It would be great if it was all the same cost, but its just not the real worldā¦shipping further means more $$$.
I am so glad to hear you receive your books the way they leave here. Makes me happy!
Yup, why they normally call it āShipping & Handlingāā¦ while handling also includes the cost for materials and the labor involved in packing up.
I feel the same way about your shipping and charges, as sleeper13 ! Thanks !
I know Iām not alone here in saying you have probably the best packing in the business. I recycle a lot of your shipping materials for my ebay sales. Overall, shipping is on par with most retailers, and at a much higher quality. Iāve been really impressed with the FedEx deliveries too. They seem to honestly take better care of the packages.
In the big picture, you provide FOC orders at 30% discount, my shipping averages 10% of my order price, so Iām getting a net 20% savings from sitting on my couch and not being a āWednesday Warriorā . Iām pretty much guaranteed my books coming to me and them arriving pristine.
Love the feedback and the conversation, without it, we wouldnāt be where we are today. Everyone has contributed something to the shop in regards to CSR, website interaction, order updates, variant packages, and spec books. Without yaāll we would not be here. I wasnāt sure we would make it a year but look at us now!
I had Villain ship 100 books to me to Canada. Extremely happy with the cost and the care when it came to packaging.
I am almost completely done with being a Wednesday warrior. I still do it from time to time because itās fun and thereās one shop that hooks me up with any hot books I missed, otherwise Iām done visiting the various shops in my area as most of the shop owners are absolutely miserable.
Concur with the sentiments here. The completely reasonable shipping costs and the quality of the books is why k only order from Villain. I donāt have to drive from shop to shop or deal with the worry of quality and cost from others that donāt achieve the level Villain does. Iām not sure there is anything that could be done better. Maintaining the service, communication and quality as the shop grows would be my only need/want.
We just need faele to quit his Maritime business and dedicate himself full-time to Villaingaming and a brick and mortar shop.
/semi joking
Haha, yeah that would be a lot of fun, but I think my kids might starveā¦hell, I might starve. Thats the goal thoughā¦I think we might be getting close to achieving phase 1 this year!
If anyone is curious what I actually do for a living: www.cptechs.net is the company I run
Just in case you need any heavy equipment training
donāt joke ā ever since I learned there was a place in Vegas that let you use heavy equipment loaders and bulldozers by the hour to play, my inner Tonka truck kid has been itching for a vacation.
Haha, donāt have to go to Vegas! Right here in Texas we have a warehouse full of toys Oh and we have access to the really big stuff at the ports!
