I’ve seen some posts here and on other sites that there is NO guarantee of a high ratio variant. You may or may not find ‘regular’ variants.
For me, its a combination of many things - value, want, possible spec, time, risk and distance. For the two packs I bought, I lucked out with the 1:50 Gleason and the 1:200 Eternals 1(though I was picky), and I would most probably keep one or both if they dont sell (to recoup my costs at least). Cant risk buying as many as I can find; dont want the risk of paying for crap. I may buy more as more people post what they are finding, AND if I can somehow determine that I can identify it in the pack. Bottom line, you have to do what feels right for you !
They are not that bad … still a place to find stuff cheap for the most part. Their employee training and customer service could definitely use improvement. I guess if they improve their employee pay, benefits and hiring, they could be better. I think their lower prices and all-in-one shopping stop draws a wide range of interesting clientele. I honestly find the service similar at most of the larger grocery chain stores around me. Of course, I do find the occasional employee that is real nice and helpful. Not trying to counter your point, just my experience. I dont like crowds much, or shopping for that matter, so when/if I go there its usually early afternoon or after 8pm, so my experience may be different from others.
I got nothing in my packs beyond a 1:10 Children of the Atom 1 variant. Props to those getting stuff though and I do wonder if Diamond is gonna be in trouble.
I liked the incentive drop with this batch, but I think what ruined it was the store exclusives. Those shops aren’t super thrilled.
Don’t think they care… seems like sooner rather than later they won’t even exist. Plus, who’s gonna sue them? They don’t have any money now…
Can’t sue them because they don’t have any money, true.
That’s like the old, “You can’t fire me, I quit!”
You know what’s funny? The few times I tried to get fired from a few jobs they wouldn’t fire me. One time I didn’t show up for work for 2 days cause I drove down to the beach on a Friday (spur of the moment too, I was heading home and was like I don’t feel like going home) and camped out at the beach. Along comes Sunday and I’m like, I don’t feel like going back yet so I stayed until Tuesday night and didn’t even bother calling into work. I roll in Wednesday morning and as I’m walking into work, a manager comes around the corner and says… “How’s it going? You look like you got some sun!” I respond with… “Yup, just got back from the beach!” I was expecting them to pull me aside and ask where I’ve been, two days, didn’t call in, not an email from me, etc. It was my total Peter Gibbons moment… I felt untouchable.
Were you that important to the office or did they not want to pay unemployment for firing you?
Or, to use a Magic joke, entwine?
They won’t put their hands up and surrender.
I was semi-important but everyone is replaceable… but the management I’d say was just that incompetent.
I see Gleason posted about this ‘scandal’ on his IG - saying that the walmart copies of his exclusive variant are ‘rejects’ and that the one’s sold from his store come with the COA and so that will separate the ‘real’ from the ‘whatever you want to call it’ …
Here’s the thing though… I pre ordered a slabbed book from his store… 2nd print ASM 55.
I have the slab in hand right now - I don’t believe it came with a COA.
I could be mistaken but I don’t remember ever seeing a COA with this and have yet to find it… hmm…
** maybe I just lost the COA. Product page for the slab I got is still up and it shows a COA on there. NVM.
On my Walmart trip, I did find two packs with the Star Wars High Republic 3 Walmart variant. Because CHU has been very helpful to me, I am willing to sell it to anyone who wants it. The pack is unopened. I cant vouch for the condition but I can describe or send pics if you need. I will ship it Priority Mail within the US only, between two pieces of stiff cardboard, in a Padded flat rate bubble mailer. I can mail it another way, if you prefer at your cost. Never sold within Paypal, but have done using Ebay. Would like to send this using tracking, so I put in the Priority Mail cost. The cost will be (the price of the pack + tax) $9.81 + $ 8.55 postage + 4% Paypal fee to cover my receiving charge - Total ~ $19.10.
Not trying to profit from this and I am doing this for the first time, so correct me if theres a better or safer way to do this. Any suggestions, please let me know; I would like this to be a simple, pleasant transaction. Please DM me if you are interested. Thanks !
Don’t do this. All the Walmart books in my area are now gone because people did this. Just pay for it.
Seriously.
If you gotta do something like this (peel back the wrap without paying for the damn books) then you have bigger problems in life and should probably focus on those instead of flipping comic books. We’re talking about $10 here. $10!!!
No respect for this trash behavior. Sad.
“Sorry, when I had it slabbed CGC did not return the COA.”
Problem solved!
COA’s are sometimes fancy, but aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Still the same books coming off the press.
Watching to see how far this bo will fall…not sure it’ll seek for $162….especially in VF/NM.
ASM 55 went from $80 about a month ago to $25.
I occasionally buy a high ratio variant. I would be super-upset if any of those ‘rarities’ show up in a $10 pack at Walmart!
It’s quite an extraordinary situation for both comic retailers and customers who paid full whack. I wonder how Marvel are going to explain this?
