WalMart Packs - 3Q21

Just made that mistake for a Star Wars 2 this past week. Saw the UPC code and rectangular issue/date block and automatically thought 1st print….not noticing the “reprint” tucked away along the upper left.

Also, a lot of 80s TV Marvel books (GIJoe, Transformers, Thundercats) had reprints that look almost indistinguishable from the first print and you have to open the book to the first page to see if it is a reprint.

There is no Walmart ratio variant.

I bought one yesterday with HR #6 on top and could see ASM #55 through the clear plastic and thought the second looked like Eternals #1 1:200 Kirby Wrap and sure enough when I got home and opened it it was.

Question- what section do you typically find these packs?

They are at the front usually with the cards, at back side of the registers.

I just mean the standard ratio variants ARE NOT unique to Walmart, only the regular variants.

Bought a few last Night. Got Mary Jane 1:500, Spiderwoman Artgerm 1:500 and that McFarlane Venom 1:500.

You are a kind soul and I greatly appreciate you.

All Walmarts by me are completely sold out of all comics. Just the empty container box. Does anyone know if they usually get more comics in before the new quarterly packs come out?

I have seen some Walmarts get re-stock, but it can be 3-4 weeks later. Worth just checking when it’s convenient for you. My understanding is it’s an outside rep bringing the stock into the store, not an actual Walmart employee pulling it from the backroom…so it can be very haphazard. I found the latest Marvel wave in one store last week, but nothing in 3 other stores since. In my experience, these comics tend to show up in the Walmart Supercenters 1st, and then some of the smaller stores later. But not all Walmarts participate. Good luck!

I struck out today @faele . The closest Walmart is 15 miles away. I went there and they weren’t where you said they’d be. I also asked, but nobody in the store even knew about them. Again, thanks for the info!

As mentioned above, not all Walmarts participate. I typically see a lot of leftover DC packs, so if you see those, you know the store at least probably carries the Marvel packs. And beware, in my experience, the store employees don’t often have a clue about them.

I’ve got bunches of these nearby. Time to buy 'em all and sell the unopened packs for $25 each. “Might get a super random incentive or exclusive! HTF! Send to CGC!”

Has Marvel or Diamond responded to this yet? Variantgate seems to have caused a huge stir this week, but I haven’t seen any official explanation. I thought PR and Comms people would have been all over this?

On a slightly different note, I had always believed that high ratio variants would be recycled after the right numbers were distributed, I wonder if this is just Diamond sticking it to Marvel as the contract is coming to an end? The retailers, however, are collateral damage as far as the market for ratio variants go, as are consumers who might have bought any of the variants that have just been significantly devalued.

For multiple definitions of recycle, this is exactly what’s happening!

Let’s play the “Crack-A-Pack” game!

Thanks to @Joe for the special delivery! Awesome packaging and regardless of result I appreciate the Star Wars variants.

Womp womp. Cover price filler.

My high republic was identical to yours

Yeah, when my main goal was getting the Star Wars variants on the front, I’m not too mad. I knew the game was over once I saw the lenticular spine.
