If it was damaged they would send it anyways and not email you still.
They are a very large comic store, stores they should be able to fill their online orders properly even with damage and shorts by pulling from the brick and mortar stock if needed. Thereās no real excuse these people are suppose to be responsible for distributing all DC comic books now but they canāt get you your 1 preordered copy of Thor yeah right. They will be selling it on their website for $200 next week.
I just sold a Thor #5 today for $40ā¦
I think your making a lot of leaps and assumptions about why 1 book was canceled. Also preorders are when you order months ahead of time. Thereās no limits whatsoever. So instead of ordering last minute when thereās nothing available or just scraps you do youāre research and order at 15-50% discount. Trust me theyāve never screwed me over on a single preorder ever.
You win some you lose some
You are making a lot of assumptions yourself mate. I ordered multiple months in advance on cover A from my regular spot at a 30% discount, but when I see Midtown offering a 1:25 going for 2-3 times ratio at the time for $20, Iām going to place an order. Donāt think Iām the one doing anything wrong in this situation so not sure why you are taking jabs like ādo your researchā. I do plenty of research and have a few hundred preorders right now. Btw a preorder is ordering before a book comes out. Whether that be 4 days in advance or 4 months in advance. When you take that order, especially a place like Midtown which had probably 50-100 copies of the 1:25, you fulfill those orders. My order sat for 3 weeks post release āpendingā while my later orders shipped. Within 12 hours of me asking about it, 3 weeks after it came out, they canceled it on me. Iām not really sure what Iām supposed to assume there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but I will keep an eye on the site to see if it pops up at a much higher price.
Customer service never responded to my email asking why it was canceled. It was very polite. Donāt think Iām going to hear back.
Fair point. Ha.
Who knows what happened. Not much I can do.
Iām not making any assumptions. Just exactly what you said. You said the you canāt believe midtown would cancel preorders if a book popped. In another sentence you stated you ordered the last one. Thereās no limits on preorders. If you ordered the last one it wasnāt a preorder.
I donāt get your argument. A preorder is any order before release day. And many sites sell out before release date. Orders are not unlimited between FOC and release date. Iām assuming you are trying to say only orders prior to FOC are preorders, but thatās just not the case. Additionally this was a 1:25 we are talking about. Of course itās limited to X number of copies. Some sites donāt sell ratios until FOC so they know how many they can order. Iām not sure why youād assume ratios are all unlimited. They had to have the A copies to get the ratios so thereās a finite number of ratios they can order.
But anyways this semantical debate really isnāt getting us anywhere. Cheers mate.
Actually at Midtown it would be a pre-order if he made the order when they listed it on Wednesday the week prior to itās release date.
So hereās what actually happened:
- Midtown lists new books on Wednesday for the following Wednesday (they do this each week).
- They listed the amount of 1:25 ratio variants they were expecting to get.
- Comp82 buys a copy online, tries to go back and order another, doesnāt allow. Thatās the assumption of grabbing the last one in stock for online orders.
- Now comes processing time, they either got shorted (they didnāt get the amount they actually expected and he was the last one possibly who ordered), sold one out of their online stock or held it back, now removing it from his order while processing.
Thatās my take. Itās not a pre-order in the sense that they bought the copy before FOC which forces them to buy 25 more copies but it is a pre-order in the sense that he bought before itās ārelease dateāā¦
Thanks Poyo you explained it better then I did.
Weāre speaking of two different things then. To me preorders are ordering directly from the previews catalog itself when it first comes out. Whether through a local shop or an online one. When you do that there arenāt limits. I get what you guys are saying and itās technically correct.
Yup, thatās why I clarified it myself in my response. Midtown never lists ratio variants from Previews. Some online retailers do cause if they get someone to pre-order a 1:25 for $40 or $50, that pretty much covered the cost of their 25 copies they have to buy, etc.
Took us a bit but we got on the same page.
I just received my books that came out on 7/1. All in NM condition. The Buffy #15 1:25 book is a damn gem though. Hopefully, one day I can get Frany to sign it. So it took over 2 weeks, but Iām very very happy.
To update thingsā¦they finally responded to my email asking why the 1:25 was cancelledā¦
āThe item was out of stock for the order. We unfortunately could not include this. We apologize for the inconvenience! If the item does return to stock you may purchase it at any time. Please note we are unable to retroactively apply sales prices.ā
Very interesting wording on how I can buy it at a higher price. Jester and Alana, you may have been onto something.
Grannyās art rep is InkInk in Singapore. Who happens to be a friend. Just sayin
Damn you got connections :). Iām waiting on a Die #1 signed by Frany from InkInk. You ever order anything from them?
Yes I have. It takes a little time to get here from Singapore but they use tracking so you should be able to track it as it goes.
Alwyn used to be Artgermās art rep. He introduced me to Artgerm a bunch of years back. I still use that connection any time I see Artgerm.
