CBCS Pickups

They’re baaaack….

Estimate was 9.6. Came back 9.8s!

I was expecting 9.2/9.4 for AF1. So thrilled a press brought it up to 9.8.

Thundercats I thought was a 9.2 or higher…I had high hopes pressing would give it a good bump. I have my doubts it was pressed though, looking at the graders notes and most defects that remain look very pressable…:face_with_monocle:

So going to inquire about this book.

Scored for DV3 and ASM55. But I knew they were 9.8s going in. But still good to have confirmation.

UltFF22 was a dud. Although I knew it may be 9.6, there are now a few spine ticks that break color on the front that were definitely not there when I shipped it out. I examined this book very tightly and would not have sent it in with spine ticks…If there were I would have had it pressed like the others shown above. I don’t know if anything can be done …

That’s the risk of shipping in books to have them graded, and this card stock glossy cover is not forgiving at all.

So, here’s the last book of the stack.

A little background. I sold a 9.6 direct of this book back in November, but somehow accidentally sent them my personal al 9.6 newsstand copy. I was able to get it back and exchange, but when I did it showed up like this:

The person who sent it back didn’t confess to sending it back damages, but did not pack it well at all and there was evidence of impact damage of the box. From what I could see through the slab it didn’t appear as if the damage was color breaking by, So I put in a request for USPS to reimburse me for the cost of pressing and re-grade (about $50, which was what it was insured for).

They would not reimburse me unless I gave it up to them for distruction. Basically a loss.

I refused and ate the cost and took the risk of submitting it. I had CBCS press it as well. Here are the results:

So although I have questions surrounding how my Thundercats was handled (above), this was definitely a shout out to a job well done. Glad I didn’t trash it!

Purchased from a European seller - took forever to reach me in the U.S.
Sent to CBCS for the exclusive Dell’Otto signing - took forever + 1 lifetime to get done.

So after 2 Forevers + 1 lifetime it’s finally with me.

That damage pic is kinda crazy considering the final outcome.

very impressive pressing job.

Did you meet Windsor-Smith? That’s very cool.

Yupper. Many times.
I have the luck of having him live very closeby me. He tends to do very small book signings in book stores and small art expos. They are typically a footnote in a local newspaper at best.
Conventions are … quite frankly… out of the question for him and he’s kinda said so

Anyone have any experience with CBCS 1 day? I’m looking at getting a mega book graded and am willing to pay the hundreds of dollars to get it graded instead of the good old $20 pgx

I sent in 2 books for 2 day modern and they got delivered the 29th of July. Still shows as submitted on the website

Ah, Windsor Smith, one of my all time favorite artists! His work on Conan way back when was amazing!

What an odd comparison to make. Mile Morales vs Squirrel Girl…

2794 UF4 9.8s on 10440 total graded. These two books have the SAME 9.8 percentage somehow. One is super modern, shouldn’t it be like 95% 9.8s???

There are only 8x as many UF4 9.8 blue labels in existence than Winter Special. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the demand for Miles is much much higher than 8x that of Squirrel Girl, so supply probably shouldn’t even be considered when comparing these two particular books. If I was to guess, with no way to prove this, I would think for every one person searching for Squirrel Girl keys, there are 100 searching for Miles keys.

So, essentially a 9.8 in a UF4 would be more rare than a WS8 when you consider interest and demand. Everything is relative.
