CGC pickups

Grades on a label in a slab are just overpriced opinions… Buy the book, not the slab and certainly not the label on the inside of the slab. That’s the golden rule!

Absolutely.
TBH - in my entire 35+ year of collecting (of which CGC has existed 20+ of those years), I have purchased less than 5 graded comics.
I just flat out refuse to spend exponential money on something that all of us can do with even a little bit of homework. Yea yea… the internet… ebay… you can’t really see the comic… restoration… blah blah blah. I know all of the “Buts”.
But here’s my “but” (LOL); I’ve purchased hundreds and hundreds of comics on Ebay; and slabbed hundreds and hundreds of comics and I’ve not been far off in my grading, on average. Additionally, of hundreds and hundreds of slabs I have submitted, I’ve only received one color touch book and it was on a golden age that I suspected anyway.
The slabs I did purchase were golden/silver books that I could not find a raw equivalent. So I ate the exponential price.

Paying for slabbed moderns; let alone 9.8 slabbed moderns - that’s just a whole another level of “no way” for me

The only time I’ve done this is when I knew it as going to be a nice flip later on. I bought ASM #3 first Silk 1:10 Variant 9.8 CGC for like $90, sold it for $400+.

I also already had plenty of first Doctor Aphra Vader #3 but bought a 9.8 CGC for like $85, that one is going to really pay off soon…

As I preach “buy the book, not the slab”, most people don’t abide by this golden rule (despite probably hearing and reading it) and so I will reap all the benefits of selling them that slab with paid opinion label within it…

The spine tics could of been caused by cgc handling it or encasing it so maybe know one did send in a book with spine tics.

We dont know because “hotkeycomics” doesnt say.

Perfectly would have been if you included the word ‘modern’. :man_shrugging: I have several books that were submitted, with spine tics. I have a 4.5 IH180. Lots of spine tics when I submitted it. And very glad that I did. :beers:

You can tell it’s a ‘modern’ in the picture…

I saw Spinal Tap live twice…Very fun to watch!

I’d never even heard of the character until yesterday when @Alana mentioned it. I’ve gotten graded copies of 2 of the 3 books and ordered some raw copies as well. The CGC census for CASW18 in 9.8 was a total of six copies. I imagine it’s going to have a low print run and I don’t think there are any variants as well. The Secret Empire issue is posted above in another post. Make sure it’s the Brave New World series and not the regular Secret Empire Mini Series. Bought a few on accident yesterday. Lol.

I see CGC announced 3 more private signings.

Guess if you are waiting for books to comeback :unamused:

Bought this off ebay for $60 . Really like the series but most of them are collected in graphic novel format but these specials are somewhat smaller than regular issues but can be stabbed. After buying it online I saw that there’s only like 5 copies total of this issue stabbed by cgc. 4 9.8s with 2 being regular and the other 2 being signature series and 1 sole 9.9 copy

Empowered is a fun little series for sure!

fml just realized theres a little dust thing in the case, I dont think i’ll even bother getting it reholdered cause it’d take forever

What do you suppose is the reason for such a small population of that book on the CGC census?

No idea. I was just thinking its cool there’s not that many out there even though its more closer to people just aren’t slabbing them lol

My guess would be the lack of interest in the book.
