I think a lot go by what the grading companies say nowadays. Not speaking for myself of course. I think most don’t consider pressing ‘“restoration”. However chemicals are generally considered restoration.
I remember when CGC would give out purple labels if they detected pressing now they press comics themselves
Just like NGC& PCGS. If you clean a coin it is a nono but if you pay for their cleaning services it’s aces.
Pressing
Purple lights and Peroxide for foxing
Page whitening
I’m starting to think it’s safer to purchase raw books these days with all the work going on with the graded ones
I think you maybe biased for good reason. Lol.
The grading companies are supposed to be able to detect chemical use. I’m not sure what technique you use/used, and this is also the “New CGC”…
New CGC aka Blackstone wants to make money on their investments by any means…
As long as money keeps on rolling in and 9.8s are handed out like candy industry happy… unless they grade UF4 newsstands as facsimiles
Yea chemical use can and will be detected. I don’t use any of that stuff.
Don’t you know , there can be approx 20% of 9.6-9.8 of UF4 are Facsimile on the UF4 census. In 10 years, the Facsimile will be consider the “Red Variant”. For one it less than the original print run of UF4 (This is true, the FACSIMLE has a lower print run than the original, so technically it’s more rare. You can think of the B&W Spawn #1 that came years after the original)
That census is gonna be so screwed up then…
Maybe 10 years from now we will talking about Tosin and not Miles
Who knows what the future holds for facsimile prices.
But that Spawn 1 B&W is a cool cover
CGC dropped the ball in not distinguishing newsstands from directs.
You know, per my understanding, there are 3 grader that examine a book before a grade is assigned, and in this case 3 grader miss identifying that UF4 was a replica which says alot about the competency of the “Grading Company” . To make matters worse, the Grading company fails to acknowledge their mistake to the public and still pretend this never happened. If they had a decent sense of responsibility they would let the masses know that there are fakes out there and please watch out for fakes. This would be decent action to do. Imagine u bought a UF4 for $$$$ because u TRUST CGC grading ability. Turns out, the grader is no different than an average Joe off the street yet you spend thousands of dollars for my “little” brother to grade your funny book. Talk about the ultimate slap in the face for your hard earned dollar. OWNED…
Spawn 1 B&W is a cool cover BUT IT IS STILL A REPRINT. Also Spawn 1 B&W worth more than the original =D
A friend sent in a UF4 1st print to get signed at CGC by Bendis and remarque by Bagley recently.
The book was pressed before hand and was mint. The final grade was 9.0.
The book was man handled bends everywhere. I saw the book in hand under lights bends all over. I was surprised. Non color breaking thanfully.
Friend is furious that their mint book came back like this. So they will have to send it back and pay CCS to repress and regrade and wait like 9 months plus.
CGC lost their future biz from this collector. They have plenty of nice books to grade but now scared how they will handle them.
Do that enough times to enough collectors…
This one is a real head shaker…
You just validated my point. To raise the stake, now we need Marvel to do a Captain Marvel 17 2nd Print Facsimile for 2022. I’ll buy a whole lot and do CGC Express and see how many of them get graded as facsimile.
Buy the book, not the label.
I don’t think I’ll buy an expensive bronze, silver or golden age book unless it’s in a slab. Just because I know it’s at least been checked for restoration.
Can you really trust them given what has happened? If 3 graders can’t identify a replica, do you honestly think they can do a good job grading your expensive bronze, silver or golden age book. Competency is Competency. ERA doesn’t justify incompetence and responsibility for owning the mistake you (CGC) made.
But yes, buy the book. It’s just the CGC case looks so SHINY @_@.
Restoring shoes and comics is almost the same thing.
Funny you say that, I know a number of comic lovers who are also sneakerheads as they called themselves. Interesting how the fandoms overlap.
