Well, we need to rethink new solutions. Dead dinosaurs as fuel will only last so long. So it’s not terrible to force them to start thinking outside the box because they want to consume it all while ruining the only planet we call home.
You are going to have to give the non-urban poor electric cars and charging stations, plus, supplement their income to help pay for increased energy bills. At my day job at social services one of the biggest things we are seeing is working poor unable to afford a tank of gas to get to work for the week. They cannot afford $80-100 gas they are not going to be able to afford the $40,000-60,000 price tag that most electric cars start at. Plus, the distance between houses is so great that it’s not feasible to run bus lines (we have tried and had grant funding for shuttles and it hasn’t worked). Urban situations don’t always work outside the city.
I can only definitively talk about my own situation with collecting, investing, & selling.
Yea - gas is stinging me. Inflation stings. But it’s the 1st time in 2 years I can really get out and do things. I’m not sitting around anymore looking at books for sale as much as I did for 2 years straight.
So the curbing of my “investing” is, for me, just as simple as I’m busy doing the things I couldn’t do for over 2 years. Much less the 7% - 8% paying more for goods.
In total, we all only have X amount of free time during a given day to dedicate to this hobby. Mine has decreased significantly
This is why we need to start thinking because eventually oil is going to run dry and towards the end it’ll be so expensive regardless if we have alternatives or not. Need to start sooner rather than later on the future man made problem.
The whole system is corrupt, with profit being the ultimate goal. Lets get away from a capitalist democracy, and rethink how we treat the citizens of our society who are less fortunate. Multi million dollar bailouts for ruthless corporations with constant cuts to public education, cuts to the taxes of the most wealthy, stagnant wages for decades, drastically increased energy prices. No representative should earn more thsn the average wage of their constituents. How can a multimillionaire public servant make honest policy decisions for their constituents, when the representatives investments interests goes against the better of the community? The system is broken. I digress.
Agree with this. And alot of Anthony’s points could be fixed by having an aggressive government that chooses to invest in their population for once, but unfortunately like you’ve said, they are not in it to actually solve problems and help humankind as a whole.
Electric cars are in their infancy. This article that tracks EV registrations, shows how there were 1,019,260 total EV’s in the entire country as of 12-31-2020.
Current EV registrations in the US: How does your state stack up? - Electrek
Now compare that to the number of overall cars in the U.S., which in 2020 stood at 286,900,000.
How Many Cars Are In The US: Car Owneship Statistics [2022] (axlewise.com)
So at the end of 2020, 0.0035% of the cars in the US were EV. It’s not even a half a percent.
The main thing that has held up adoption is availability. All of that is about to change, as Tesla expands their capacity and other manufactures bring their EV’s online. Assuming that we don’t encounter lithium constraints EV’s will gain market share.
However, based on the average amount of cars sold each year in the U.S. (17,000,000), it will take 16.82 YEARS to replace the 286,000,000 ICE cars that are currently on the road.
An aggressive government is powerless when you consider these numbers.
Maintaining a policy of maximum oil production while this transition takes place is clearly what’s in the people’s best interest.
EV’s have proven to be superior to their ICE counterparts. Adoption will take place without unaffordable gas policies and without the risk of hyper inflation that we currently face.
I did a back-of-the-envelope calculation a while ago, and using a Tesla Model S battery (which is 60-something kg of Li in its battery pack), there’s not enough lithium reserves to convert U.S. cars to electric, let alone other cars, let alone let alone phones+computers+solar battery arrays that use Li ion batteries.
Obviously, if we get better at battery size/efficiency/etc, or make different batteries this calculation is moot. But we have a real resource problem on our hands I think.
We need a potato powered car
I’ve been using fuel additive in my Mercedes 300c since 2015… Zero Issues.( Regular NOT Premium ) I use that with a Full tank every time. Golden thus far. . .
I used to do that when I use to race. Didn’t like paying the high price for the 105 octain back in the day lol.
Now I just have a 07 Civic Si. I tried putting 88 but it sucks. Not the same performance. Might try that again… Thank you
Fast railways is the real future to combat depleting our world destroying dinosaur juice addiction problem. It’s funny, the dinosaurs got wiped but now they’re getting the last laugh as their dead cells are now destroying us.
Anyways, don’t sell comics during a recession. If you can hold out, wait until the economy rebounds to sell comics at higher prices. And if you can buy during a recession, now’s the time as you’ll likely score better deals from those who need money now and are forced to sell. That’s all I got when it comes to comic investing and speculating during a recession.
Stay away from my French fries.
Ironically I have listed some stuff I have been meaning to list. Higher priced on Mercari than on eBay and they have been selling pretty well. There certainly are people lookin to buy right now. Also picked up 4 copies of Eight Billion Genies (4 at cover price) and sold them for $18-20 each depending on the cover. People are still looking to buy. I just need to keep listing as I have been lazy with selling the past couple of months.
I totally agree. You see the fear of this in Elon.
With the costs associated with “back to school”, August will be a key buying month with folks likely selling to funds kids needs/clothes, CC college textbooks tuition, etc,
It’s sad but the nature of the game. This year most certainly.
I personally will have a little stash ready for about the 3rd week of August as I’ve always found that to be prime buying time.
(I don’t mean it to sound callous either).
Heres the solution. Vehicles that run on biomass. You can convert your vehicle today and save yourself from buying fuel, and all you’ll need is a chainsaw and a hatchet to fill your vehicle.
Only conversion I ever did was going from Unleaded to Ethanol on my car back in the early 2000’s for racing purposes…
But I did have a neighbor that had an F-350 on Biofuel.
