Exactly. If you have no intention of paying, just don’t bid.
An update on herrlejeff1 :
The guy filed a chargeback on his credit card for ‘cancellation’ of order. Ebay asks me to send proof of receipt - tracking info. I found this strange, because its on the Ebay site already , and his messages clearly show he received the book. Anyway, I complied.
Waited for a month and Ebay messaged me back saying he won his case and was credited the cost + postage. The good thing for me was that Ebay didnt charge me anything, and in fact deleted his negative feedback, so I was OK with this.
I dont know why his credit card company would side with him - both tracking info and his messages on Ebay show he received the book. I am not sure if Ebay had to compensate the credit card company or him directly, but just thought this is a heck of a way to respond to a clear lie.
“You’re clearly lying, and we have multiple forms of evidence proving that you are lying. We’re left with no choice but to let you win and go about our days. Sincerely, ebay.”
Another buyer to block:
frikk17 - bid and won, and then requested to cancel because he found a better price.
I let the book sit unpaid for a while so that he gets an Unpaid strike from Ebay (hopefully !), and then cancelled. What these people dont understand is that Ebay charges you a Final Value Fee when a book sells, irrespective of whether the buyer pays or not. Now I have to figure out if the fee is refunded or not.
I’m not sure about the next buyers intention -
cjar2000 - requests a ‘full’ refund because he didnt receive the book; stresses the ‘full’.
Simple check of tracking shows the book was left on his front porch two days before. Ebay requests me to provide an explanation (again when this tracking info is already available on Ebay !). Anyway I complied and two days later the buyer cancels the request. Not a big deal but his request put my funds on hold, and then he didnt even bother to apologize. I blocked him because of the last part ! but he could have just not checked. But buyer has 100% feedback of 2121 ???
Just to be clear on herrlejeff1 - Ebay asked ME for the tracking info so that THEY could send the tracking no. ONLY to the credit card company. Obviously, the credit card company sided with the buyer, but I am not sure who refunded him - Ebay or his credit card company. I also dont know, IF the latter, did Ebay credit them ?
I was just glad that Ebay took care of me too ! To be fair to Ebay, they have been good to me for several of my cases.
Yes. You get your FVF back, but not the $.30 transaction fee back.
Automatically, if its an unpaid case. Not automatically if cancelled before 4 days right ? (If buyer asks to cancel because they cant/wont pay or found a better deal elsewhere, GRRRR !)
FYI, if you are using eBay’s Managed Payments, no FVF or transaction fees are charged until the buyer pays. This is so eBay gets paid immediately instead of having to wait for a monthly invoice/payment as they did previously when they were not directly handling payments.
Remember, just because there’s tracking doesn’t automatically claim the person who bought it received the actual item. Some credit card companies I’d imagine only go by “Signature Confirmation” that an item was received as that is really the only way to prove that yes, the delivery man actually handed it to a person at the recipient address and someone physically signed for it, acknowledging actual delivery.
So yes, it sucks you did your due diligence in doing tracked package but at times, it’s not a 100% guarantee to protect you in some cases.
I’ve had packages sent to me that showed “delivered” and yet they weren’t. I even had one get updated as “Delivered on front porch” yet it wasn’t and I have cameras to prove while also being home all day everyday. I even once had an Amazon package notification say my package was delivered, and when the image came through, it was someone else’s porch… sigh!
Not sure which of the two - herrlejeff1 or cjar2000 - you are referring to. But besides the tracking - the former has messaging on Ebay discussing the book; the latter should have first checked his tracking, and confirmed the receipt before filing a return(his book was delivered two days prior !; also he should have messaged me first !). Obviously the latter got the book because he closed the case !
I get your point about package deliveries; it doesnt apply here though !
Also, herrlejeff1 (if you look at my past listings here, is the guy who was upset that I didnt accept his return, and wanted to ‘build a wall’ !).
Well, in the case where they were leaving messages about the package, the credit card company doesn’t have access to the chat messages but they were also not told the complete truth. For all we know, the recipient told them… “not as described” and that was it.
Ebay said that the credit company reported ‘item was cancelled’. I KNOW !!! Tracking info should be enough to dispute this. Ebay could handle this all internally, with the credit card company, including providing info on transaction exchange, but I think even they thought the tracking info was enough. Even if Ebay wanted me to communicate directly with the credit card company, I would have.
So no, in these two case it wasnt just a delivery issue, it was on the buyer, which is the point I am trying to make here !
Also, Ebay took care of me too ! So all good there, just that this response from both Ebay and the credit card company encourages bad buyer behavior.
Remember though, credit card companies just don’t care and usually have way more authority than anyone should have in disputes. For all we know is they’re just making cardholders happy by just accepting all claims based on a certain cost. How much was the item? I’d imagine if it’s on the lower end, they just close out anything not worth the effort in actually investigating.
I suspect you are right about that ! The item cost (incl. shipping) was $56 (a lot of $$ to me).
I am happy for my sales, but every time I ship a package out I lose some of my lifespan. I have to wait for two months (the return window) before I can relax about that particular package, and then its starts all over ! The things I do for comics
I use to worry about things like that but I’ve now trained my mind to not worry so much about things out of my power. I guess it’s only gonna really affect me is if it’s a really big sum of money or anything else that could directly impact my life or something.
I still need to get to that point - I’ve got one eye on my Ebay sales and one on my TFAW bills. Just trying to make enough to fund my comic habit
petehokkanen - Outbid several bidders and then did not pay !
darnelhal_4 - Outbid several bidders and then did not pay !
enw321 – Put in a best offer, I accepted, then completely ghosted on both the transaction and follow-up communication from me.
chase_variant Canceled on a preorder before release date. Wouldn’t have ordered 200 copies of a book smh
ouch. that one hurts.
