Nice. 5th printings likely have a small print run?
If we say yes then everyone runs out a pre orders by tomorrow driving print run up and then theres a another printing in a month
plus how are the later printing of stray dogs doing
Stray Dogs was a pump and pumpâŠ
There were a lot of pump and dumps last year. Rwby 7, Bad Idea books, Black Panther 3 (The Next Miles). Stray Dogs wasnât one of them. The story was quite good and it got a boost from the option news and creator signings at CGC. People loved the horror movie homages and retailers couldnât keep enough copies to satisfy demand so Image had to pump out later printings. I donât remember talking to one single person who didnât like Stray Dogs.
If thatâs how you look at it, isnât the entire industry a pump and dump then? Every time we talk about any FOC books or speculate on any first appearances or nice covers here, arenât we all complicate to it all?
Where do we draw the line?
For the record I never sold or have any copies of Stray Dogs, I read it online. It was already too late for me to get any first printings when it heated up. But having read it I can appreciate why so many people loved it.
Donât know why everything has to be so nefarious? Hot books heats up and eventually drops. Only the blue chip keys keep rising in value over time.
I think Stray Dogs initially was organic despite being optioned months before FOC. People jumped on it after a couple of issues and it exploded. The exclusives and later printings were fomo/p&d imo.
I agreed with @mushu. âStray Dogs,â was honestly a hit but then saturation came with all the extra printings.
I loved the extra printings. Got them all. Didnt expect to make a mint off of them.
For those that missed out and want to read, this is an easy way to get all the issues to current latest issue:
Eight Billion Genies #1 (of 8) (5th Ptg)
Eight Billion Genies #2 (of 8) (5th Ptg)
Eight Billion Genies #3 (of 8) (5th Ptg)
Eight Billion Genies #4 (of 8) (4th Ptg)
Eight Billion Genies #5 (of 8) (2nd Ptg)
Eight Billion Genies #6 (of 8) (2nd Ptg)
Black Panther 2099 #1, Black Foil ??? 1st 2099 Black Panther? Maybe its lead up to a reality shattering events? Maybe someone dies?
Tynionâs Substack series Blue Book has FOC this next week via Dark Horse. Sort of an alien abduction book, but he claims Dept of Truth readers will enjoy it. Iâll probably grab the A and the 1:10, as itâs a glow in the dark cover, and Iâm powerless to resist those.
Love the duo-tone vibe of the covers.
I am looking forward to that series. I do like Tyrionâs solo work and he has some interesting sounding series in the works.
Who doesnât like a good alien abduction story?
If there probing? Iâm asking for aâŠfriend.
something i dont understand, it applies with a lot of bigger name writers
if the story is so good, why isnt it with boom or image ?
I thought the same thing. I figured Boom/Image would take just about anything Tynion scribbles onto a napkin. Maybe they didnât want it because this content already exists in Substack form? They are just printing them now.
