I ended up lucking out. The woman had the slot machine on her porch and I was unable to test it. Kind of a sketchy neighborhood so didn’t want to leave an envelope of cash and just take it. Did find a flea market and bought some comics.
I just bought a questionable marketplace lot. About 70 books. Fairly beat up from the very little I could see, but it’s got some cool older books, and it was $25. Felt like a low-risk gamble.
I know these two are in there, but these are stock images.
I have a nice collection of Psycho magazines.
love the charlton flinstones!
Those CGC egg Counsil creeps must have gotten to eBay too…
Speaking of marketplace, I’ve been super annoyed. Don’t laugh but I’ve never been able to actually create a Facebook account. I’m somewhat rather tech savvy but for the life of me I don’t know why this keeps happening to me.
So your guy’s posts on marketplace collection pickups got me looking around for garage/yard sales and marketplace ads this weekend on Sunday. Saw a marketplace post for a collection of books local to me for a very reasonable price. Came out to 40 cents a book for 400+ books. Lots of Spawn low printed keys and some silver age keys that the owner is trying to get rid of.
So made an account at Facebook and just kept looking at the marketplace post. There were also a lot of junk in there and it was late so I figured I’ll contact him the next day to go pick up. The next day comes and Facebook tells me to do this bot verification puzzle test. Fine, log in to look at the pics. To this point I haven’t made a single post yet or contacted the customer yet. The only thing I’ve looked at were other marketplace posts in my area.
Then after a few hours Facebook asks me to send in a selfie video to verify that I’m human. I don’t have a cam on my desktop computer so I had to download the facebook app on my phone. I send in the selfie video following the instructions and had to wait a few hours to get the review approved. Few hours passed and I get this when I log in:
So I googled what this means and apparently it’s pretty common with the Meta AI. It is permanent unlike a suspension and I cannot request a review. You can get the account back but you have to go through the process of contacting Meta and speak to a supervisor. Their customer support is outsourced and won’t be able to help you so you have to talk to someone from Meta and talk to a real person. I’m not going to go through all that.
Still can’t figure out what I did to get this. I don’t know how you all create accounts so easily. So I did try to create a Facebook account a few years ago to follow my LCS group because they were going out of business and I wanted to follow their postings. A few days later I got the same thing that my account was disabled by not meeting community standards.
Have no idea what I did. I haven’t made a single post yet or contacted anyone and the only thing I’ve ever looked at was my LCS page and marketplace posts. I’m wondering if it’s because I haven’t uploaded a profile right away and my browsing habits are suspicious enough to trigger bot detection. Have no idea.
It’s quite annoying. I’ve told some friends about it and they say it’s a good thing lol, social media can be a brain rot, however I do want to look at some marketplace posts. FFs.
That is annoying!
Picked up the buy today. About 75 books, almost all really beat to pieces. Some literally. But, I knew that going in.
There are enough 1970-73 books in ok condition to make it worthwhile.
What did it cost you?
$25 for the entire lot. I’m keeping/selling 18 books. Probably 50 that are worthless and ripped to pieces. I may just recycle those.
I kept about 100 of the 300 I got for $50
You bothering to repackage the 200 you’re going to ditch? My mother is having a garage sale in 2 weeks. I might just throw them all in a box and put $5 on them
No. The 200 are trash. I may do a quarter sale at the next flea market I do. Usually do well with $3 bagged and boarded comics. Hot stuff doesn’t sell well there. Had Ultimate Spiderman #1 there for less than eBay and no one looked at them.
So, I felt good about the $25 spent on this buy, but here’s one I didn’t know had any value, as I’m not a Turtles guy. With a press, it’ll be in pretty great condition. Looks like this sells north of $125.
Archie turtles and Sonic’s. Don’t pass them up if they’re cheap.
I was just saying how that comic lot I bought had some nice TMNT in it!
For some reason I looked in my sub box today and that was in there.
I didnt subscribe to it so I am rather curious.
A new reprint of it just released. It is good stuff.
I rarely have garage sale type finds. Actually funny as during a conversation here about that recently, I thought to myself that it’s the one area I just haven’t had a ton of luck with (marketplace, Garage sales).
Saw a post for a garage sale & saw some comic boxes. I saw the post a day late though & nearly didn’t go as I figured there’s no way anything good would be there. Didn’t feel great either…
Well… Glad I sucked it up…$1 a book, all beautiful shape, and, because I bought so much the seller took more off.
I gave him $100 for 120 comics.
Not complaining, but can you imagine the return 4 years ago on this SW stuff?
Big stack of really nice Uncanny X-Men in the 230-260 range (sans any big keys). Nice stack of later run Conan too!
The seller had about a zillion DVDs…wish I knew more about those. I could also tell he tried to price some comics but just gave up (and he told me so). The ones he priced weren’t too out of range, but nothing grail enough for me given the amount of $1 books I was finding.
