I like what you got! (Goodwills, Thrift Stores, Yard Sales, ETC Finds)

Went to King Kon today and it was as good a show as previous years, if not better. Dealers were happy to mKe deals and I was able to make a nice trade which I’ll outline below. I love making trades at shows, wish more dealers would be open to it while keeping it fair.

Got these for $5 each. The Galactus newsstand is pricey in 9.8 which I may try for. I’ve always wanted the Venom 9 Sienkiewicz variant.

Paid $15 for the pair. The Garron venom variant surprisingly doesn’t show up on eBay often. Good book to hunt for… I got the Nightwing because of this forum and it was basically free. Looks to be a $20 book.

This is definitely getting cracked, definitely wasn’t pressed. Paid $390

This is the highest grade 1st print I’ve ever seen in person, and honestly I never see 1st prints to begin with. Seller was asking $650. I gave him $150 and a marvel superheroes #20 CGC 6.5.

Good ol’ Cherry!

Forgot to add these. Paid $25 for the 3 books and Bob McLeod was there to sign the Hulks. I only learned of the existence of the Star Sapphire variant today so I was really excited to find it at the show for cheap after checking eBay initially.

Good pickups. Was thinking of going to King con, but a couple hours drive.
Just an fyi… if you ever try to sell that cherry poptart on Ebay - nope.
I tried with the Adam Hughes 3x and they took it down 3x. I appealed and lost

Where do you live? It was about an hour from Queens but I thought it was worth the drive. Yeah cherry books are banned on eBay. If I sell it, it would most probably be through Shortboxed. I’m gonna keep this one in the PC for now though and maybe sell my other copy.

I’m in the Hudson Valley - about an 1.5 hours north of Manhattan.

Interesting - I didn’t know one could sell Cherry books through Shortboxed. I’ve been looking for a place to unload it before it plummets. I thought it was a great purchase until 1. I couldn’t sell it on Ebay and 2. I probably can’t sell it at a small convention either with kids walking around. Essentially I have an expensive book that I’ve felt I can’t put up anywhere and has become a kitchen sink for me

Whatnot or Shortboxed are good avenues to sell your Cherry books. Don’t rush to sell #1 just because it’s banned on eBay, especially if it’s a 1st print. You don’t have to do the stream on whatnot, you can just list books like buy it nows on eBay.

Went to this “warehouse sale” today. Apparently they open this up one or two Saturdays a month. It’s about an hours drive from me, but I’ve never been. After a long week of work, decided to check it out and get away for most of the day.

It was pretty overwhelming. They had a room with dozens of long boxes, 70% off (most books had $8 tags, so it was like $2.50 books). Then another wall of long boxes was 50% off (most of these books I would say were priced around FMV, on average). I spent about 3 hours going through everything, then realized these was an entire additional room with dozens upon dozens of long boxes stacked on each other…which were $3-$4, but the guy basically said “grab some books and I’ll give you a
Deal.” A lot were not bagged/boarded…but I think there was gems to be found.

None of the books were in any kind of order…just total chaos and randomness. I had spent so much time in the other rooms, I only gave myself about an hour to dig through what I could access…so many stacks of long boxes…and I wanted to hit another shop that used to be a honey home during the comic boom I had not visited in a while.

So anyway, here are the books I picked up.

These were about $4/each, and for the PC.

The ASMs looked to be 9.8 candidates. Can’t leave McFarlane ASMs behind in that grade for that price. I don’t think I have these, so for the

Transformers 36 (1st Sky Lynx + cover) I’ve been trying to find a 9.6 or better in a newsstand…but found this 9.8 direct candidate. The Spot cover I just like. It’s a fun cover. And I’ve been searching for the White Lantern Batman book for years…just a cool mashup.

The Superman is a Neal Adams cover. Just interesting to me how the art is super imposed on the photo background.

These were all $2 books. Geiger 4 and Junkyard Joe 1 are books I needed as I’m trying to put the whole run (1-6 of each series) before I read them. Still missing a few from each. Impact winter was a great find for a flip. And the Immortal Iron Fist is just a spec hold (in case Wu-Ao Shi ever becomes popular). New Mutants is a Middleton cover (trying to collect his run in the title on the cheap).

These three I pulled from the 50% off bin, but the seller gave me a further discount so it was more like 60% off.

Naomi #1 is the “convention” edition. I have several copies of the regular and variant in 9.8s. But have wanted this for the PC for some time. $12 is better than what I’d pay online.

Sonic 4 is a retailer 1:10…never pass up Sonic 1:10 for $8.

And the Robins #1 Speedo (Workout) variant needs no introduction here. It did draw some attention when I brought it up to the counter, lol. $6 for a decent flip.

Second stop today. Most of these need no elaboration. We’ve been talking about them quite a bit in recent months.

All were cover price, the GI Joes all seem to sell in the $20 range, maybe higher.

I love the Doomasaur. Issue 12 is the first appearance though…and I don’t believe I had that book.

X-Force 129 is the last issue, and a cool Doop cover. The Tec 962 is just a Putri cover I like.

All in all, I spent just under $150 on comics today (just under $4/book)…now to get to listing…see how long it takes to make that back…!

Very nice. Should be able to sell most of it quickly and recoup to cover what you keep.

I really should be better about logging in what I’ve acquired since 1/1 and what I’ve sold. I did have a goal to take in less than what leaves my house this year. I don’t think I’m winning…not even close…but I wonder how far in the red I really am…

I keep track of every penny. I’ve never finished a year selling more than I’ve spent, but for 2025 I’m currently at +204%. The inevitable summer slow down will hurt that. Happens every year.

This just happened yesterday. Back stock from a comic shop that closed around 2006. This was just a taste, they have pallets more. Might have to put my big boy pants on for that.

Anything good? I’m assuming you looked through before purchasing…or was it such a steal that you just took the chance?

I had a list for this lot… lots of duplication (example 28 copies of Marvel Super Special #40 Labyrinth) as you could imagine from old store stock. About .40 cents an issue is what I paid. It’s higher than I would want to pay but it bought me the price of admission to see the rest. There is money to be made, it will just take a while. I am going to start a new thread about the worst drek to find in a collection. I have a doozy to share…

Today’s purchases from the Stormville Flea Market in Stormville, NY.
Everything was either $0.50 or $1.00. It was a feeding frenzy at the zoo with multiple hobbyists rifling through stacks of books.
Some dude just “emptied out his shed” and did not seem to care what the true FMV’s are.
The only issue is Picture 3 shows what each comic was wrapped in when I purchased. Disgusting Food Produce bags that haven’t been touched in years. So I need to shower now after transferring everything into new bag’s & boards. :face_vomiting:

Did you see Bronzeville Comic (Jim). I know he is always at the flea market, posting his finds.

I was going to head up there but the weather did not look to good.

Nope - I did not. I have seen him once at Stormville (I think it was 2 years ago)

It was raining as @cms1 mentioned so I suppose it held back many, initially, from attending.
It did clear up later, but that booth was probably ransacked by then.
Some dude who got there probably a little before me got darn good books too.
