I Like What You Got! (LCS Finds)

Savage Dragon NS is a nice find, the blue/pink logo is the most valuable of that first edition. Also got a very nice copy of Danger Girl #1 myself this weekend, always thought they were undervalued for early Campbell covers.

Lots of great pickups. Love the Bruce Jones book. I have a bunch of them

as a Bill Sink fan, I finally scored one and I wanted a sharp looking copy. $20 was a fair price!

Bruce Jones’ has nice artwork even tho he seems to write more.

i thought the Savage dragon NS was a good one. Image NS #1s don’t seem desirable. Aside from the Spawn are any others?

I’ve been searching for that book in the wild for a while now.

This was a cool pick up from a lcs that holds these types of books for me.

Minor Arcana Advance Edition
Neat thing is the corners are cut round

I noticed that before too. Just like a Tarot card.

They should do every book this way. Would drastically minimize corner damage!

Cgc would find a way to damage it…but still give a 9.9.

A shop near me had a “warehouse clearance sale”. They put out 16 long boxes, all assorted books, some bagged and boarded, most loose, all $0.50 a piece. Was really happy with the Strangers In Paradise 90 set (I’m a big Terry Moore fan). I also picked up a couple of personal future spec items. The only issue was that the 2 Amazing Fantasy books had small, orange “SALE” stickers on them that left residue on the covers. Otherwise, I’m very happy with the haul.

Edit: I’m having trouble loading pictures to the site right now. If you can picture it in your minds, the comics are as follows:

  • Lazarus 1 x 2 copies
  • Amazing Fantasy 7 x 2 copies
  • Strangers In Paradise 90 - Covers A, B & C
  • NYX 5
  • Incredible Hulk 420
  • X-tremists 2 - 1:25 Frison variant
  • New X-Men 133 - 1st Dust

Got a little nice surprise today. So at my LCS they have a clearance section where they bundle some books together and sell them as a set for cheap. It’s a good way for them to move inventory. So I see a pack of 6 Booster Gold comics for $8, so a buck and change per book.

The front of the pack has Booster Gold 1 but I notice right away it’s a Canadian Price Variant (CPV). Figure that’s good enough for a dollar a comic. Picked up the pack and when I opened it I notice every other was a CPV also, nice! One of the perks of being a comic book collector in Canada is you can often times find CPVs in the wild, but even those are rare in Canada.

Issue 1 has a few color breaking spine ticks on the front. The back looks perfect, needs some cleaning but no ticks.

I’m going to do some incantations and perform some voodoo magic to try and make them look flat and presentable. I think issue 1 is like a 6.0 right now. Hoping to get it like a 7.5 or 8 and then sell the set raw. Probably not worth grading yeah? Such a shame, high grade CPV newsstands of issue 1 graded goes for big money. I see a listing for a CPV 9.8 on eBay right now for $1600. Some of the other issues in the pack has a shot at a 9.8 with some work but not issue 1 sigh.

I always buy every New Champions cover when I find these in dollar bins. A shop here had a 25 cent sale where all back issues (mostly newish stuff) are 25 cents. I left with 70 books. Mostly readers, like the whole run of Once Upon a Time at the End of the World. A few DSTLRY books. But found these, too.

I was thrilled to grab the ghost rider, as I’ve already sold two of those for $30 per. But I was stunned to find the Maystorm book.

And 25 cents each.

One of my local shops confirmed they had that ghost rider issue with the variant and set it aside for me.

Every year, after I set up for my annual local comic con I promise myself to take a small portion of my proceeds and reinvest it into my collection. I try to stick to a book (or books) that I’m very confident in, and/or have some elements of personal value.
This is what I ended up. I promise I’ll get that write up done soon.

The Batman #227 checks all the boxes imo…it was the grade I could afford. The Super Heroes TV is a beautiful copy and not an easy find. I loved Herculoids as a kiddo. Ghost Manor #1 is a VF/nm which is very tough to find. I like finding Mark Jeweler books that are horror related.
I have zero interest in Sonic but my 5 & 2 year old grand-daughters love him. I collect Turtle stuff for the grandson so I’m going to start accumulating a few nicer Sonic books for the girls and these appeared to be good grabs. All of these were in beautiful condition.

Last I checked, that Ghost Manor #1 had a ghost amount of high grades on the census.
Great comic!
I bought one long back when everyone was going MCU crazy nuts, for a song and a dance. Came back 9.2 from the professionals. In all seriousness, I think it is an appropriate grade by CGC for once.

Sheesh… I just looked at the census.
9.2 actually IS the highest grade. Only 2 total at that grade.

So when (if?) those clowns in Sarasota stop damaging books, send away if you think it is near that grade or certainly higher; if looking to ultimately ditch it. You’ll get a pretty penny.

I love Charlton horror books and grab them whenever I see them. People pay them no mind half the time. Their paper quality wasn’t always the best and I think that may be the reason so many are low grade.

After seeing the recommendations about GI Joe I decided to make the trek to a shop I know that is more of a gaming store versus comics. They do carry new comics (weekly comics) but it is certainly less important to them. I usually have good luck with stuff that heats up later.
Anyway, Everything was for cover & since I bought quite a bit they gave me 25% off as well.
Yo Joe!!!

Wow, nice haul.

That is a good amount of inventory for a comic selling biz right there. @Devildog
