I Like What You Got! (LCS Finds)

Been meaning to search for some Doom Patrol spec @Alana pointed to a few weeks ago. Found a NM copy of Vol 2 #14 for $3.

Then dug though some dollar bin boxes and pulled out Marvel Tales #137, Marvel Super Action 18 and Annihilation Conquest 3&4. All kind of in VF shape to VF/NM, but should be able to sell reader copies of these for a small profit. Can’t go wrong for $1!

@D-Rog Great finds!
My find of the week were these. I’ve wanted them for awhile, but tried to be patient (which isn’t often for me) as I had hoped I’d eventually come across them.
Found both at basically cover (actually less than cover as I got a discount).

Stopped in a sports card/Nascar type collectible store & they happened to have some comics in a dollar box. Grabbed these for a buck each & the Firestar set for $5. Nothing crazy, but was fun digging. The Static book is one I’ve never seen out & about. Happy hunting gang.

One more small buy, that I owe completely to @D-Rog. He mentioned & showed the SpiderGwen third prints & I thought I recalled seeing them at a nearby shop. So I made the trip & found them, along with a few other goodies all at cover or less. Absolutely appreciate that tip!

Nice finds!

I went to an out of the way LCS today. 1st time I’ve been there in 5 months. This is what I picked up. All for cover price. The store also informed me that they have rented out the unit next door to them and they have set up 120+ long boxes of stuff, opening for digging next Wednesday. I’m going to go for open.

I didn’t do as well as @jcLu, but here are my pickups today.

The GIJoe is A “reprint” of Marvel #21, of which my copy is at cbcs…probably forever as I was having it pressed.

I heard WildCATS might be heating up, so took a chance for $4.

Grabbed a FCBD Spider-Man, Instamped.

The other books were $1 bin…figured I might make a small profit on Invincible Iron Man #1 and I liked the 2nd Print homage of GSXM1 for the Spirits of Vengence…and reprints are all the rage now…/

Well, just got back from 3 hours of digging in the long boxes mentioned above. First off, it was probably 60-70 long boxes. There was some great stuff. However, when I first arrived Inoticed only some books were priced, others were not. I asked an employee about it, she said that non priced books are cover price.
Then after 3 hours of digging, I went to checkout with a stack of books about 2’ high, the owner was working the cash and she said she had to go online and look up each book. Uugh. I wanted to see what was what, so, I asked for a detailed list of books and the prices, once she was done ‘pricing’ them. It took 1.5 hours to checkout. 1 hour to price, another 1/2 hour of me going through the list and pile and choosing what was coming home.
Long story short, I ended up taking 1/3 of the books home, left a couple on hold, and handed back a big stack, that she then said she was going to pick through and see what was fit for grading (F#CK off, comic book store person). Anyways, I still made out pretty good, and I had fun digging. The worst part of it all, pricing wise, was that I found 2x Venom #9 priced with a sticker at $9.99. She even looked up those books, despite them already having a store sticker price, and then she asked for $100 for each one (F#CK off, comic book store person).
Anyways, I can’t be too upset about her wanting to maximize her profits seeing as I’m sure Covid has effected her sales the last few months. I still made out pretty good myself, so, win/win in the end, I guess.
Here’s what I got. *Note that the Venoms and Silks are not the same ones as above. And the shop keep had the Silk Hip Hop sticker priced at $10, then had them priced at $6 after her ‘research’. :man_shrugging:

The books I left behind were a bunch of early Aliens, Predator and AVP 1st series’, doubles of all the McFarlane Batman’s, Batman 666 and BM656(?) 1st Damian. 1st War Machine, 1st Sinister, 1st Jubilee, early Jim Lee UXM, Zeck CA, Miller DDs, Akira #1, A SDCC Flashpoint #1, Sienkiewicz Moonknights, including 25 all signed by Bill with an awesome white market on those black covers, Flashpoint #1A X3, some bronze FF and Thor, 1st Beta Ray, 1st Kate Kane as BW, among others.
I held a IH340 that they want $150, it was in a bag w/ no board, but looked really really clean, so it’s in my pull box if I want it. A few other McFarlane IHs, a Vision #1 and a few others.
I spent $195 US. The SW 1st Thrawn is a solid 9.8 contender (again w/ bag but no board, uugh), but managed to survive nicely. That book alone will more than pay for all the books I bought, 2x/3x/4x+ over. Comics for the win.

Love it! Thanks for sharing. So much fun to dig like that. Well done!
I always do sort of feel like the shop should throw you a bone or give you a good deal as you just spent a great deal of time finding key books they very likely didn’t even know about.

The moment it would take more than 5 minutes to check out I would have already left. 1.5 hours… I can buy a new car in less time and that includes my 30 minute test drive.

Any other situation, and I’d be right beside you, @agentpoyo. Patience is not a gift I have. I don’t shop online and my network of stores has been good to me. I know the owner and I let her know that it would behoove her to price her inventory as it is a real turn off for most customers. I enjoy the dig and was looking forward to digging those boxes today. I was able to leave and come back while doing the extended checkout. I didn’t stand there and watch her. I came back when I was done looking around the mall and around town. (We have covid under control and everything is really opening up now) But, yeah, it’s f#cking stupid, on her part and on mine. Hers more than mine, I hope. :joy::man_shrugging:. And if I had just walked away after digging for 3 hours, I wouldn’t have a $700 comic that I bought for $30.

Thanks for doing their research for them.

Thanos 16x2, Darth Vader #1 Avengers 33 and Infinity #6 Opena.

All for cover except the Opena which was $6.99…well below ratio.

I went to a couple out of the way shops today, that I had not been to in many, many months.

I picked up Lone Wolf & Cub #1 - #16 for $45. This series has been recommended to me a few times, so I decided to pick up this high grade set to start reading.

These were on the rack at one shop (the whole shop is ‘racks’, no boxes :man_shrugging:). All were cover price. All are higher grade. The AC9s have 3 non colour break tics each, but they should press out nicely.

These were bin dive finds at one shop. I paid $45 for the lot. All are higher grade. I thought @ToddW may like the Shadow Hawk #1 Newsstand. The WoS24 is a newsie too and the GI Joe #5 is a high grade CPV Newsstand. :eyes:

I remember buying that Hulk vs wolverine reprint off the stands when it first came out…thought it was the coolest thing to read Hulk 180 & 181 back to back in the same comic.

I think that is an undervalued reprint, tbh. And I totally agree, it’s a great read.
I would like to add, @rob92807, that I apologise for offending you with my trump comments the other day. We have had a few political spats, and I just want you to know that although we may not see eye to eye on politics, I still think you’re an upstanding dude, and I enjoy talking comics with you. No hard feelings. :beers:

No worries on that but thank you. I thoroughly enjoy talking comics and everything related with you as well! Politics are…politics. I live in CA and most of my friends are on the opposite spectrum politically. I have known them for decades and they practically family. We get by when voting season closes in. Never particularly look forward to the month before and after a big election no matter if it goes “my way” or not. Just one of those things .At least people don’t duel over those differences anymore as they did centuries ago…For now anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

For that Hulk vs Wolverine it is the first reprint of the classic fight. I’m surprised people aren’t pushing it as such with a variant cover! The print run was fairly large but definitely an overlooked copper book! Maybe a future copper “semi key”? I actually went to my hulk boxes and dug it out to have a look. Going to read through it again later tonight after I put the little one to sleep. It’s been years since I have done so! Looking forward to it!

All for cover except the Black Widow (paid $15). Not sure why I paid it as I don’t care for BW. Moment of weakness…

You should whip out the Crayola’s and color that Black Widow cover… totally looks like a coloring book page…
