I Like What You Got! (LCS Finds)

Sorry to hear of the loss of the shop owner.

I have been very quiet lately. We went on vacation on the 22nd of last month. First day there I started to feel sick. My son felt off on Tuesday. My mom on Thursday, my wife and other son the following Monday. My younger brother the following Friday. Oddly enough we were on the beach away from people, and COVID doesn’t hit a day later. We mask and are vaccinated. Not sure but my mom, brother, wife, and both sons got it. (brother had modern, wife and mom got Pfizer, kids are too young to get the jab.)

We quarantined for the next two weeks. Everyone is good, thank god. But just saying, even with masking and social distancing, and vaccinations, my family got COVID.

This is not a political debate, (not directed at you JcLu), just saying that even masked and vacced, my family all ended up with COVID.

This is also not a political attack by ANY MEANS AT ALL. That being said, with your breakthrough cases as well as the rest across the nation and world (especially Israel), what are your thoughts on the efficacy of the vaccine? Should the manufacturers be given total financial and legal immunity?

It is my understanding that the Delta Variant is 2% different in its composition from the original strain. The variants of the Swine Flu were 20% different and yet the original remedies as well as a person’s natural T-Cell immunity worked against the variants.

Can the argument be made that the vaccines were never truly effective and the push for boosters and daily pills are a cash grab? Is Big Pharma addicted to Federal funds?

Again, these are just open and honest questions. No attacks intended.

It is effective though. It keeps you out of the hospital and the morgue.

^^ This right here!

Vaccines like these (just like the flu) don’t prevent you from getting the virus at all, they just help you not die or get deathly sick. So when you look at the stats between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients landing in the hospital and those who go on to die is staggering and very conclusive that the vaccines are truly effective in what they’re designed to do.

Now in a perfect world, vaccines would just eradicate the virus entirely and shield us from even getting it, like a deflector shield bouncing it off but that’s just not how viruses and vaccines work in this case.

I think yes unless there’s proof there was malicious intent. From what I can tell, the intent of the vaccine is good therefor if someone has an untypical reaction, they can’t account for every biological being that takes it and how the body is going to react, that would be impossible on such a scale.

This is why being inoculated is so important. Vaccines won’t 100% protect you from being infected, but, the fact that your bodys immune system was given a head start by being inoculated helps you reduce the severity of the virus, as well as make you much less contagious. The Vaccines, Anthony, could very well have saved one of your family members lives from their infections.

And public health issues are not political. No one should be listening to their politicians, or newscasts, for medical advice. The only person to listen to for medical advice is a Medical Doctor, like Dr. Fauci, or the lady (can’t remember her name, but I know what she looks like, lol) who is in charge of Health Canada.

I’m glad your family is safe, Anthony. :beers:

No. That argument can not be made, as it flies in the face of hundreds of years of proven science.

The science behind vaccines, and their efficacy, are widely available among peer reviewed journals.

Vaccines are highly effective, the science is 2 centuries old, and vaccines have eradicated diseases from the face of the planet.

Vacine is like bags and boards, just because there are occasional instances of back color rub on a Marvel issue doesn’t mean all books would be in better shape if never bagged and boarded.

I’m not sure what ‘funding gain of functions’ is, but, it doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with his medical expertise. Regardless if Fauci funded gains of function research, he still is the leading expert in epidemiology.

Edit: I just looked up what ‘gains of function…’ was…US funded Chinese research has zero to do with the Vaccines, or the fallout of this virus.

Fantastic, and very apt, analogy…:+1:. Everything should bag n board their immune systems as to get your best shot at staying in 9.8 health.

4000 people in Canada under the age of 70 have died from Covid. Out of a population of 40 million.

15 people under the age of 19 in Canada have died from Covid.

… but yes, let’s force the entire population to get vaccinated… makes perfect sense. And let’s make 12 year olds get vaccinated and wear face masks all day.

Thanks. Yes. My mom is 67 with diabetes and has had numerous heart attacks. It could have plunked her down good. She said it was like a sinus infection. My sons were a little off for like two days. But other than that they were fine. My brother was sick for about two days but not knock you on your ass sick. My wife had it the worst and was not bad bad but bad (nowhere near hospital bad but still doesn’t have taste or smell (one could argue she married me so never had taste)

Going back to the original question, do I think it is a money grab to push shots and pills? No. My family made it through a virus that was wrecking otherwise healthy adults in the beginning and killing more people.

I was talking about the COVID vaccines specifically, not vaccines in general. Vaccines in general ate great, as they contain weaker or dead versions of viruses for the body to build T-Cell immunity.

As much as I’m enjoying the science conversation, I had to double-check what thread I had clicked on.

You’re right, I’m sorry for derailing this convo.

I like how you tried to bring this conversation back to comics! Didn’t work though!

It isn’t an LCS find, but I got some comics from a Facebook Marketplace listing. The guy was selling a longbox of comics cheap and let me dig through and pick out what I wanted. Some stuff wasn’t bagged and boarded so it wasn’t all 9.4/NM, but I did get some fun things:

“Green Lantern 20,” the first cameo of Jessica Cruz
“Star Wars: Heir to the Empire 2 & 4,” a popular mini-series, kinda lower-grade issues but still sought after.
“Detective Comics 27 Millenium Edition,” a popular reprint
“DC Legends 1,” the first appearance of Amanda Waller

and some other random little things.

I always come in late to the controversial topics…and it’s already moved back to comics.

Anthony, glad you’re recovering.
