We are discussing the 2nd print though, @ToddW. If we use the Curtis Code symbol that is on the 2nd print as our director, then, every copy of UX282 2nd print (gold cover) listed and sold on eBay has the same Curtis symbol. That is evidence enough, for me, to show that the books were all direct, or all Newsstand. Either way, they are all the same. I can’t find a 2nd print with a barcode. I also believe that the lack of a barcode on the 2nd print with the Curtis symbol is also evidence of the 2nd being a direct copy.
I think that there wasn’t a distribution monopoly back in the early 90s, this would make it very difficult to figure out who was distributing what, where and when during that era. So for now, I believe we must follow the evidence. With the evidence being the active listings w/ photos on feebay. M2c. (Edit: another place to check scans of the book, for comparison, is at MCS, if available)
That seems to be the general consensus thus far. Apparently there are several instances of this including X-Force 1. I’m still getting more info but Monopoly Jackson was right about it being a direct edition. I’m never afraid to admit I was wrong. Learn something new every day.
That’s what great about these civil forum discussions that we have here at CHU. I’ve learned a ton about our hobby through reading and participating in these types of discussions, here on CHU, for the last 5 years or so.
Marvel’s 2nd prints in the early 90s are notorious for having the same cover art, but with a gold or silver back ground colour change. It may be prudent to check other Marvel 2nds from that era and see what their respective corner boxes and such may look like, for comparison. Who knows, maybe you can stumble across a copy of UX282 2nd newsstand with UPC. Possibly a good book, if it exists, to have for Bishop if there is ever any news regarding him and the MCU.
It’s 1st Cover appearance of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. I did well flipping these over Deadpool’s two movies, and beyond to a lesser degree…And I while heartily agree, Poyo. It’s fugly as sin.
