Most reviews seem positive outside of some clickbait ones as @D-Rog mentioned–what’s wrong with being paid to be a critic tho, my man? I’ve had some paid reviewing gigs in the past, after all. I do wanna see this and wonder if it’ll make some money or all the monies.
I’m mostly referring to those that generally critique movies as their career, and are not really fans of the genre. So take their opinion with a grain of salt.
Like how Armond White is famous for always giving good reviews to movies everyone hates and bad reviews to movies everyone loves–basically on purpose? I feel ya.
Superman is great. Different. More comic booky. Less dark and broody. Light. Fun. Loved it.
This, plus showing financial support at the time Hollywood seems to value above all else are reasons why I decided to see it on opening weekend.
It’s interesting to me. The non comic book fans I know (yet enjoy Superman & grew up with the original Reeves version, etc) absolutely hated it. It wasn’t because of the actor…they just hated the other characters, light tone, humor & such.
The comic book fans who know, are at least familiar with the other characters all enjoyed it.
I’m looking forward to it, but will wait a bit.
Really enjoyed it myself. Took my wife, 16 year old and 15 year old and they all enjoyed it as well. A fun summer popcorn flick for sure.
Interesting. So many projections were like, “It will probably do well but not amazing,” but folks seem to be into it!
Enjoyed it. Certainly with significant flaws, but popcorn movies with a good soul is acceptable.
The 5’0", 90 lb cutie Isabella Merced definitely was the best casting as the ruthless, powerful warrior Hawkgirl.
We saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. It isn’t perfect but a good (film) start for the new DCU.
She was the only casting issue for me. Cosplay hawkgirl.
I really loved it. I will admit that Hawkgirl and her shrieks took me out of the moment a bit. But overall, it was really well done. A nice change in tone for DC. And, I’m a huge fan of Tom King and Woman of Tomorrow, so seeing that on the horizon is exciting.
As I reminisce, I remember those stupid goats shrieking in Thor: Love & Thunder.
Someone(s) willingly and knowingly put the most annoying shrieking in two movies now, just to give me a friggin migraine.
It’s like the Dumb and Dumber movie with them driving in the car and Jim Carrey asking if he can do the most annoying shriek sound he can think of.
Except Dumb and Dumber was supposed to be dumb, so I could handle it.
Nothing has ever been as bad as those fuggin’ goats.
Amen to that.
Movie was excellent, I loved it. Don’t know how I felt with them reframing Superman’s parents message to divert from the inspiration Siegel and Schuster used from the Torah, to turn the intent into something much more sinister, but I could overlook that.
The concept was also explored in Smallville and in comics previously. It just makes me appreciate ma and pa Kent more.
For sure, it’s an interesting take, but maybe for an alt world storyline. I really loved that at the end, when the superman robots played footage of his parents, it was the Kents. But still, at the end of the day, his biological parents saved his life.
I have a hunch that they’ll “fix” that somehow down the road. “Wait, the footage WAS doctored!”
