Lanterns

I figured it out (so I think) as soon as she showed up at his door. I’m like “she clearly controls her husband…and he’s would do anything for this “benefactor”….and she has every reason to manipulate Stewart before he even knew her.”

Episode 3 was terrible, IMO. I found the parents to be not believable. Too quick a transition for the mom…yeah, all the gunshots in the backyard with no consequence was ridiculous. If he loses his parents I’m not sure I’ll have much of a reaction. Scenes with Hal at the end saved it and me from just exiting then and there.

But E4 was much better. More dynamic and depth to Hal vs. Stewart. Are they good? Are they not? Plot is starting to move again. Ending was awesome. “Sorry about the rental…”

The cow was a bit much, though…

I lived in rural NJ for a while. I remember the rules during hunting season…never go in the woods. EVER. It was also in the Appellations so those woods were a bit…odd anyway. Always beautiful, but more often than it should happen, it just wouldn’t feel right. Ah, the creepy Appellations.

Yeah John’s parents were just too much, IMO they came off crazy and borderline abusive; if the goal was to root for them then it missed for me. I can see how they were trying to make us feel for/understand John more by showing the tragic childhood etc but the writing was over the top. The cow in Ep4 was certainly a choice as was the drawing Macon’s weenie scene  but the show has been very entertaining and enjoyable overall so I’ll be watching the rest of the season to see where they’re going with it.

I don’t think the parents are meant to be likable. Especially the mother. It’s framing his upbringing and singular purpose forced upon him by his parents. I feel viewers are missing that point. He was raised to be a Lantern but it was the result of terrible parenting. The dad understood what it meant and was a tad reluctant but ultimately agreed.

I get the point, but I don’t think it’s being told in a believable way. Even for a tv show about alien invasion.

Another good episode. Manhunter story is wrapped up, though I wish the show would have revealed the final form of the Manhunter. I also never understood what species of alien the black ops guys who were looking for the Manhunter were or what technology was being hidden on the ranch…

I think it’s based off of the Five Inversions which was led by Atrocitus who founded the Red Lantern Corps. It seems like they used that origin and Manhunter hatred as the plot, but didn’t actually use up Atrocitus as a passing plot point.

Weird that episode felt like a season finale, but there are three more episodes to go…!

Because there was actually some real powers used. It’s a good show, does a good job of being an adult show and not losing the comic book roots, but action has been scarce.

Another good episode. Appreciated that we got a little more ring action than we have up til now. Kyle Chandler still my favorite part of the show even tho they made Hal fairly unlikeable this ep IMO. Also enjoyed the actors for Antaan and Macon, shame it appears that’s it for them in the show. Internet seems to think the Sheriff’s son Noah is the one who kills Hal based on that scene with him/Zoe and the comment from Kerry to Hal about Zoe giving her a “miracle”…could just have meant that Zoe saved her from her past life but could have meant Noah. Looking forward to the rest of the season to see how they wrap it all up.

Yeah…he went off the rails for sure. When someone has no fear doesn’t always make the best choices.

I thought that too at first…but then now seeing what Kerry is capable of to protect her people…and being a sheriff she has a gun…wouldn’t that be quite a twist at the end if she shot him? Just because her and John were chummy in that scene, she has come from a dark place herself.

But maybe Noah did shoot him if Hal came after Kerry…and she’s covering for him.

Good mystery.

They’ve got a lot of ground to cover with three episodes remaining.

I’ve been mixed on this show up to this point, but looking forward to how they wrap it up.

I thought John Stewart came off as a royal prick the last episode.

Very entitled for sure. No matter what his character or the audience thinks about Hal, Hal is constantly correct

100%. They both were lost their cool. At least John stayed true at the end that he will earn the ring, not take it from someone. No honor in taking it. Unfortunately Hal’s distrust couldn’t see that John figured out on his own the guardians were manipulating him…his instincts were wrong on that one…

But he still took it. Beat Hal up and took it. Then used him as bait.
