Lanterns

I’ll just say I have family from vary parts of rural town USA…and I’d say they’re going pretty light on the F bombs from my experience.

Dammit…had my copy listed for $30 for the longest time on eBay with no takers. I think I finally “gave it away” for under $20.

Edit: actually I did sell it for $30. Back in November of 2020. Wow that was longer than I remember it being…shipping was still under $5!

Well, John was a Marine so the cursing seems realistic to me.

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be any cursing, especially in a show geared toward adults. I’m just saying it is excessive to the point it being me out of the show at times especially during scenes that really don’t need it.

I found it interesting they let him almost/halfway drop the hard “n” word when talking to his brother.
I use close captions .they half spelled it also.

John’s newfound use of the F bomb and the entire dialogue between the brothers including the almost N word was spot on for most Black families I’ve spent time with. Not a dig on their choice of vocabulary, just an observation that the language in the episode/show is a pretty accurate representation of how people speak.

The high level of curse words wouldn’t jump out so much if it was only John. It’s multiple characters. Rural Nebraska isn’t The Sopranos and the over-reliance on fxxx or ridiculous terms like shitfxxxs is what makes Lanterns at times seem like a teenager trying super hard to sound adult.

That is a good way to put it. I was having trouble trying to put the whole feeling of it into words.

I think the ex girlfriend lawyer shot him now. Carrol Ferris.

Found out Kerry and Hal were an item. Shot him.

Or…Kerry’s son, Noah, is a manhunter…(he was a “miracle” according to Kerry). Hal found out, was going to turn him in or tell him mother…so Noah shot him.

What the obsession with throwing people in jail or prison who haven’t done anything wrong? First Hal gets beat up in a bar fight by a gang of people and he ends up in jail. Same thing with John. He gets jumped by a bunch of people and he ends up in jail. And why was Hal in prison? Because he failed to save the entire town?

Small-town rural policing trope. Outsiders rights taken away in favor of locals.

The sheriff tells them both times that she locked them up to appear to be vigilant to the townies. but also John technically attacked the guys. He basically assaulted all the guys after finishing the count to 3. And hal essentially started a bar fight.

No spoilers since it’s been out about 5 seconds…watched Ep7 and Kyle Chandler deserves an award that I’m sure they will not give a superhero show lol. The Hal-o-gram is the third version of Hal this season and Kyle has just killed every one. Aaron Pierre and the writing for this ep were great as they explore the dynamic we could’ve gotten with Hal and John. How they’ll wrap everything up next week satisfactorily in 50 minutes I have no idea but I can’t wait if it’s as good as this week was.

Back to my original take. Almost confirmed it…making more and more sense…Kerry calls Hal’s mom to tell him Hal wants to apologize…setting him up. She knew he was in town….he was going to kill Noah for being a manhunter (not yet confirmed btw…just a theory).

we’ll know next week!

The gun in the safe was probably a hand me down from his dad…to follow in his “legacy.” It’s in the blood.

But obviously didn’t get to use it.

I will say they have the kitchen sink of possibilites laid out for who killed him between Kerry, Noah, anyone else in Rushville or even Hal doing it to himself with this last ep really piling on the suicide angle. Aside from the “murder” I’m enjoying the Sinestro plot and curious how it connects to what Hal was doing post jail…why did Hal have a portal to Antaan’s dead world and did he know Sinestro ended up there after he escaped space jail? I assume Hal telling John in that diner scene not to tell anyone he was in town was because he was up to some shit or knew something was about to go down.

notice how ring stopped saying low power though episode. also it said an hour of talk time left but halogram was there most of the episode, way more than an hour. john kept the bird for 2 days, he is keeping halogram the same way

Hal broke Sinestro out of jail…

calling it now

Green lanterns don’t kill. I think that rules Hal out…it’d be a much more gruesome scene if he did it close range too.
