That’s some nice stuff!
I’ve started going to small local card shows lately just in case someone happens to bring comics. More often than not I strike out, but today was pretty good.
I I paid $140 total for these (clearly not $1 bin finds), but the condition on these was great and I’ve always wanted the late Transformers issues. The Iron man books are early Skottie Young and not easy to find.
I was pleased with the finds.
The Marvel Adventures line of stuff was good. All-ages friendly but well-written too and entertaining. I miss it.
I went to the elitecomics11 expo yesterday. I wasn’t planning to go because tickets were $30 after fees and that seemed steep to me for this type of show. I wanted to get steranko sigs though… which btw were $50 each (wtf). I don’t know how many more opportunities there will be though so I just sucked it up.
Honestly though the show seemed dead. $30 tix probably kept a lot of people away. Vendors seemed visibly disappointed by the turnout.
I scored some decent stuff but honestly, with the flippable books I’m buying these days (beefcake, Mora, etc ) this just isn’t that kind of show. Vendors bring their bigger books to this show with lots of golden/silver age boxes to dig through.
Anyone else go?
Wanted to go quite badly, but it was either Steranko or Miller (Philly Fan Expo) and I had already committed (bought tix) to the Frank Miller experience yesterday, (fortunately or unfortunately depending on one’s perspective ![]()
I did go last year and got to meet D’Onofrio (pic and autograph).
But yea - all those vendors know exactly what they have and exactly how much the value. I didn’t buy there last year.
Steranko has been $50 for a few years. It’s a lot but at the same time, who else is left from the Silver Age that still does shows?
Arguably still the best-looking signature in comics, too, in an era where many creators have illegible scribbles.
I was going to go today for the Jim Lee signing, but like you said they were charging high fees and it would have come out to $40 in fees. After seeing that I did not buy the tickets.
I attended a local show today that I always enjoy. I picked up a lot of cool stuff for well below what it normally goes for. New stuff was below cover, other items were simply well below usual prices. Here are pictures of everything linked below as I can’t post them all at once. Spent about $140 total, with the most expensive purchases being the Absolute Batman 6 variant, DNAgents and Airboy at $20 each. Everything else cost less…
Oh, I forgot to include the first and second issue of the, “Minions,” comics, which are part of the $140 I spent, but I got those to keep because they’re fun and my kids will enjoy them. I’ll pay $5 each for some fun reads.
Very cool grabs.
I’ve yet to go to a con (large or small) this year. Every time I’ve singled one out something comes up (or it gets cancelled).
And there was the time I actually arrived to the location only to find out I had the wrong week (it was the week prior).
I set up at most Hotflips shows now occurring at an Elks Lodge in Massapequa, L.I.
Did pretty well today with sales; alot of foot traffic
But the real news is the show organizer just announced today Rob Liefeld will be set up at the next show on Aug 2nd.
Ill be bringing my Liefeld books for sure!
Can I ship you one or two for signing?

Went to my first “convention” of the year this weekend. It was more just a local comic shop opening up his space (outside) for local vendors to sell comics and other things. I may look to set up next time as I think the table fee is pretty small.
Anyway, I did a decent amount of damage. Unfortunately the vendors really weren’t selling more modern books like what we have on our hunt lists. So mostly I just found deals for my PC.
The Vader and Marvel Meow are flips. Surprisingly I’ve never owned a Superman 75 comic. So when I found what looked to be a 9.8 contender first print I grabbed it. With the 25% discount paid $4/ea.
These I got from a YouTuber whose friend with the owner. Paid $11 total. Just some fun books for cheap I did not have.
I don’t pass on Star Wars Dark Horse KotOR or Legacy for $1 (ignore the price sticker).
Moon Knight annual looks to be NM ($3). The X-Men 213 may be a 9.8 contender (paid $15).
My last purchase of the day was this lot of books from one seller. They were various prices, some marked down…but total was $80 (just over $6 / book) all looking NM or better, if not 9.8 contenders. Love finding McFarlane Hulk covers in high grade for cheap…even if they were not his best. Building that run in high grade (already have the 340).
I see a Moon Knight comic (or one that features him), I smash that, “Like,” button!
hit up a long running local show and finally found some Red Hood and some of the Mora Detective run. $1 each.
Jim Lee LOSH 2nd print sketch and G.I.Joe Newsie w/ Snake Eyes for $1, sure.
And? Pics, please!
Here’s the show I attended. Two floors of local dealers/sellers. Not a lot of wall books…but a lot of short and long box digging. I was there from 9-1pm, and didn’t come close to digging through all they had. So many dollar and $2 books…
I will say they had a fair amount of DC Bronze horror. And most prices on books were market or less…many were offering 25-50% discounts if they had books priced above. Everyone talking/asking for absolute Batman…most was gone shortly after opening.
There is one dealer I didn’t even bother giving the time of day because he has books priced double what they were during the peak of Covid…calls everything a “key” and offers 50% off said keys….so basically still priced at Covid…and he passes himself off as so knowledgeable and connected…I just get the “ick” from him and move along.
Anyway…here’s the haul.
Middleton Psylocke cover ($1). The X-men 258 is a Jim Lee toybiz variant and got for $4 (eBay lists at $30). I got the reader SW 68 for $2!
Got all these for $1 each. Superpros are for next years CHU fantasy football prizes. Hard to pass on high grade TT Go for that price.
Some Superman books. 202 (Turner) was $1. Paid $5 for 712 (been looking for this for a year…supposed to be a good read…didn’t want to pay eBay prices). 680 paid half ($8) as it’s an upgrade of my PC copy which I’ll now flip.
Elfrek might be a 9.8 contender (paid $4). Been searching for 9.8 contenders of x-Men 290 (Newsie & Direct)…paid $1 and $2 I think. Bodies I paid $5 hoping that spec come back.
Flips. Paid $5 for the Iron Man. $1 for the others.
1st Magpie and Shadow of the Bat were $1 (NMs). And the Joker covers for $2 each (I get these signed in red paint pen by Jock and flip for a decent profit). Lost Light is a potential $30 book.
Could not remember if I had BM 118 variant, so grabbed for $3. Found the 1st print of ABM 7 1st print for cover. And perhaps the find if they day…Detective 1006 Quintana…not only was it priced at $3, but I got 25% off!!
. They are still out there…I keep finding them.
Nothing too special about these. Paid $1 for the Batman and Red Hood. Paid $2.50 for the punk variant Worlds Finest (waiting for a punk to come back).
Dan Mora Batman covers for $1.
More Dan Mora. I paid up for the Nightwings…but I will not pass on Nightwing Mora for $10 . WF5 was cover.
I will also not pass on 9.8 potential McFarlane Spider-Man for under $10. Paid $24 total
Also picking up McFarlane Spider-Man in high grade if under $3. Paid $5 for the two.
And let’s end with some Beefcake. The ones priced at $2 I just took…if they’re not in demand they will eventually be.
NW 103 I paid up for ($10). Looked up quick and seemed like it was north of $20, so just went with it. The other three were $1 off cover.
So all together paid about $160, including the $3 entrance fee. And with a little luck there are 4 books that may cover my purchases.
SW 68 for $2? Wow!!!
I’ll buy that ABM 7 1st print if the price is right. Been looking for one to replace my 4th printing.
