Mark Spears Covers

I love his usage of turquoise blue in his art.
Might get tired of it over the coming months, but right now I love it

I hope I’m wrong, but I have a hunch the Spears love will be short-term. He is absolutely cranking out covers. I remember him mentioning somewhere that he thought he had the record for most published covers in his first year of doing this. His work feels a little Momoko or Barends. Unique and super popular, then over-done and a bit repetitive. Probably the natural arc for most suddenly popular artists. But, the volume concerns me a bit.

Again, I hope I’m wrong. And, let’s get those $$$$ while we can.

agreed with saturation.

Add two more covers to the list…

It’s absolutely short term. His initial/limited release works will always maintain value, but look at any artist still pumping out work…every blue moon there’s a hit, but once they start pumping out stuff that pretty much looks like all the other stuff they’ve done, spec is over.

He needs to start using different colors. I get it’s his thing right now, but I’m getting bored already…at least when he uses it on other books.

More of the Apex 1 stuff…that’s was different enough to make it special on its own in how he used many of the Amy “markers.”

I want this dude to start doing covers. The watercolor technique is fantastic, but the compositions/ideas are what makes it. I’m buying a few prints of these for my office.

It happens with artists that takes off for sure… it’ll be no surprise that demand will start to drop while people start looking at other interests. ArtGerm was huge for a while. Momoko was all the rage at one point, Middleton was all the rage… Jock etc… it’s the ongoing and never ending cycle of artists and comics…

The trick is, as I mentioned before, to know when that time is to step out of the frenzy. Lest we be stuck with the bag. That is often a difficult timing thing.

I did call the Rose Besch popularity. When I saw she was doing more and more covers I knew she was bout to blow up.

I’m still a big Jock fan. Good stuff.

Yup, just demand is not the same as it use to command… I think all these types of artists create new lifelong fans.

What do the call fans of Jock?

Jock sniffers? Jock straps?

@Anthony CBSI also had a spot on it under their True Firsts thing as well… yesterday I think… recently at any rate.

Bought two copies in NM (supposedly) along with two other monthly comics I wanted for $34 after shipping and tax. Tracking shows they have been shipped. I had this comic on my radar a few months back. I didn’t pull the trigger until your reminder the other day! Hopefully the hype for this one continues.

I did it in October. So I think most of the Mycomicshop copies were wiped out before they did it.

A Jock of all trades :drum::drum::drum: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::rofl::rofl::joy:

His Headless Horseman cover solid for $85 today. Can’t find one anywhere. No more on eBay. Kicking myself because I almost bought one on two separate occasions.

Agreed…the headless horseman book is the one I’ve never come across and I also never pulled the trigger on an online purchase as I thought I would be able to.
Rats!!! Double rats!!!
