Mark Spears Covers

I think it’s kind of ridiculous to charge $10 more to add your first name. I’d be curious how many people opted for that….maybe we can ask him.

I’m sure there are people that just want a souvenir and don’t care how he signs…and therefore save $10.

But I also don’t understand why someone would pay more for a signed book they didn’t witness or experience getting signed themselves…unless it’s someone whose passed away and that’s your only option.

Curious what his remark looked like.

With the exception of Adam Hughes and his “AH”, I prefer to have an artist sign in a fashion that is what they usually how they sign on the book.
So in Spears case, I’d just want the “Spears” like he does on his covers.
I too would be curious what others chose.

I know signatures are a money making business, but with a massive line & wait like that, it seems reasonable to put a cap on number of books you can have signed. Two, three, five at the most?

I think when an artist knows they will always have fandoms and income from signatures, they will put a cap on how many signatures to ensure all their fans have a good experience…it’s not about the money (well, it always is, but they don’t get as greedy about it…)

I think with Spears he knows he could be a flash in the pan…there are no guarantees…and he’s out to capitalize on as much as he can at the moment.

Unfortunately that can work against you in popularity…I’m not sure if this is the first con he’s signed at or first time witnessing such a craziness…hopefully he adjusts at the next con…fans can be forgiving if you are genuinely making attempts to make the experience more for their enjoyment than making money…

This must have been a big convention you attended?

That is great that he gives people the option to get his full signature. I would pay the $30 for a full sig on a book I cherished. I’d pay $50 for a full Tynion.

He did limit the number of books at 5, but if you bought any of his exclusives (I think there were like 9?) those didn’t count towards the five. Props to the guy with the portable fan drying sigs. That did help speed up the line….

I mean it was Huntsville, Alabama…I certainly didn’t think there’d be that many people there for Spears especially on a Friday. Can’t imagine what today and tomorrow will be like. Hopefully they’ll make some adjustments…

I have a ton of books signed by Tynion I will sell you at $50 each. He has a lazy signature too.

I think he is saying he wants to see a full name sig rather than J dash T dash.

I think this is his first con. He also doesn’t have anything else scheduled. Not many opportunities for his sig outside of cgc events.

I hope his signature holds up as the day goes on. When they get tired, their hands don’t always make the best signatures near the end. I’m still trying to figure out how I got Todd McForlone to sign my stuff instead of Todd McFarlane.

Forgot to mention, those YouTube guys were all over his booth this weekend. One of them was bitching that he presold a ton of signed Monsters #4 but the issue got delayed to next week.:rofl:

Since the foils were $100 plus the $30 signature this was the only exclusive I picked up. Thought it was the best cover.

His autograph is even smaller than JTC’s autograph

I agree! But I would prefer a non-foil version.

My goodness…no wonder he charges more for the full name…and depending on where you want him to sign, I can see people opting for just the last name for aesthetics.

I need to see a picture of that lol

That’s a good cover. Anything with a female on it I feel will have more of an appeal to comic guys.
