I agree - the looks in the comic and the comic storylines/history are what draw me to the TV shows/movies. I always hope for the shows/movies to match comics, with the expectation that somethings may have to change to accommodate live-action.
I call it 'the formula". Even a regular show on TV; you start watching it because for whatever reason, you like the formula. They are in a lab, fighting crime and thenâŠseason 4, they suddenly find themselves embroiled in Italy chasing distributors of car parts, no longer in their lab. Great story, but it isnât âthe formulaâ and audience interest begins to falter. Wonder why.
I think the characters, just take Superman as an example, has a formula. If you start changing what he looks like and what he does and how he can be impacted by whatever, then he isnât Superman, he is Superdude, or Somethingelse. I really donât care if an artist or author wants to change it up, that is great, but is isnât Superman anymore, it is a derivative of Superman. Point being, my comment would be that when I go to McDonalds and order a hamburger, I donât care if they serve spaghetti; I came for the hamburger.
I wouldnât really call âhamburgersâ at McDonaldâs hamburgersâŠ
Derivative of hamburgers?
2nd episode was a little better. Im more interested in the bangle and the powers she gets from it than the stupid subpar stories of her family and friends.
Whoâs the mum?
Oh, she made a one-panel appearance in Ms Marvel (2014) #13.
The kid that Kamala saved stole Nakiaâs shoes at the mosque!
Right??? Why develop any characters? Dumdums. There was a mosque and middle eastern references throughout this stupid show as well⊠canât we just focus on super powers only? So very, very subpar!
I mean, câmon, we donât know a SINGLE thing about Peter Parkerâs friends, family or love life⊠why canât we just stick to that kind of tried and true plot outline ⊠powers only!
Not sure what you mean by âfocus on superpowersâ; and we do know a whole heck of a lot about Peter. Her comic does focus on her powers, but her heritage, religion, and gender are important parts of her backstory, and differentiate her from other heroes. Dont see an issue with the mosque and Middle Eastern references (even though she is Pakistani). A big part of Daredevil includes his relationship with Catholicism; it makes his story interesting.
The TV show maybe subpar based on the storyline - thats a fair assessment. Iâm not big into her comic. But its not because of her character development, its the way the story is written, and its appeal to the TV audience. The writers have to achieve a balance of staying true to the characterâs comic roots (including her background), as well as holding audiences interest (for ratings).
I will say that if it turns into a powers only show, it will get old and lose audience quickly. Also, not passing judgement on anyone here.
I didnt take it in a wrong way, no offense taken/intended. Didnt mean to insinuate or stir up any thing. I do think the superpowers are important as a comic book fan. I just dont want it to be only about powers. Of course, the flip side of what I want is that it turns into a soap opera, so I have to be careful what I wish for. The writers have a challenge for sure, and its easy for me to have opinions.
I went in wanting to hate it but itâs actually pretty good. Iâm hoping her powers get adjusted to get original but other than that Iâm enjoying it. Wish I could say the same about Obi Wan.
yes exactly! please no more subpar details about the character or her stupid personal life or, god forbid, her culture. donât those marvel studios dummies know we just want non-stop powers stuff?!
It works for Revenge of the Sith non stop lightsaber fights.
does it, though?
I really enjoyed the second episode.
Yeah, me too! And I particularly thought the descriptions of the groups at the Eid carnival was hilarious. I also really like how normal the characters feel. As in, theyâre not over-written.
another solid episode
