New character Miracle Molly in Batman

Sooo many shops went heavy on that issue too. She has made an impact yet for the randoms to want the issue.

Tynion said that she will be a mainstay in the next story arcs for atleast the next year before she appeared. And I’m a big Batman guy, and the design and persona it appeared she had (before 108 came out) really put me off of her and I thought I wasn’t going to like the character that much. But after reading her ‘first full’ I was surprised at how much I enjoyed her character and look forward to seeing more of her in the next issues. I wonder why the general pop is offput by her, or maybe they just printed the ever living hell out of 108 (which is true) and midtown just has so many incentive issues leftover.

History tends to lean towards the first appearances that are pushed by the publisher tend to not do so well on the secondary.

I also think Batman has lost it’s edge as well cause it seems like every issue now has a new “mainstay” character. It’s like Tynion is trying his hardest to mark his spot on Batman for years to come with all his latest character creations… :man_shrugging:

All the new characters have been great as has the Batman run, easily my favourite read of all the series and I look forward to each new issue.

Secondary market and value does not equate to good/bad character especially this current market of absolute morons wasting money on crap. The problem here isn’t the character the problem is over ordering because people seem to think new character automatically means more demand and money. So it’s good sell your over ordered stock at 60% off but the same thing will likely happen again with the next character who appears :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the character. Definitely one to hold long term.

But but… doesn’t the market also decide which is the real first appearance? Muhahahahaha!

It’s not people over ordering though if the retailers are sitting on stacks of copies. That’s shops and retailers anticipating what was pushed by the creator and publisher in hopes everyone rushes out to buy, falling victim as consumers instead of listening to their customer base and pre-orders, which should be based on what they know what they can sell.

But I agree, you can have good characters, good stories that never amount to any type of value. I got stacks of indie reads that are 100000 times better than any Marvel or DC title or story that will be worthless probably until the world ends.

One of my favorite all time reads ever was Grievous Journey Of Ichabod Azrael by Rob Williams. Another great read was Brass Sun. Both surprisingly from 2000AD/Rebellion. If these were BOOM! titles with all the extra hyping and promotion they do, probably be worth a whole lot more. People fall victim to marketing and FOMO. Just goes back to the meme posted here the other day…

Yeah the character is better than I thought she would be. And I really think its midtown over ordering or over pricing the ratio when it first came out to why they have so many copies.

Batman 106 sells for about $15 right now.

Edit: her cameo

Just was in 2 comic shops both had 106 on the wall $20 bucks. Guess 106 is favored over 108.

Most recent sold for regular cover A went for $4.99 + $2.89 shipping.

Now two days ago two others went for $10 range. Prior to that around $12… but if this trend continues, prices are dropping.

106 was definitely a lower print run than 108 AND arguably a first full regardless of what CGC says. That being said, 106 never got a second printing so that tells me copies are still out there readily available.

Also, comic shops know that a lot of customers fawn over the words “first appearance” and they jack the price up. Believe it or don’t, but the comic industry is current experiencing 1992 all over again.

Not just customers… we got a lot of retailers who act like consumers themselves. So yes, 1992 all over again.

Also consider the landscape has changed drastically in the past decade. Once upon a time you had just actual retailers (brick shops selling comics and book stores, etc). Now anyone can get a Diamond or Lunar or Penguin account. All it takes is a online presence to become a retailer, thrusting actual collectors, consumers, and speculators now playing retailer in the comic book industry.

I think 106 v 108 is similar to DC 1034 v Robin 1. 106 and DC 1034 are both ‘cameos’ but way smaller runs then their counterparts, which ultimately I think will end up making each the winners for their perspective characters. I mean, I of course have multiples of all issues mentioned. But still if someone can’t decide just buy both!

A cameo bought at cvr price is still a win, if it’s a good character.

Do you mean 108? Issue 106 did get a second printing with a nice Federici cover.

Yup, when you pre-order at discount or cover price on any book, it’s a small gamble each and every time.

Shoot you are totally right. I just never picked it up so I spaced it.

106 definitely got a 2nd printing cuz I grabbed a couple of em.

It doesn’t say anything about the future of the character. 108 was well hyped in advance so stores stocked up and exclusives were plentiful keeping the incentive prices down and easily found. It’s just midtown liquidating their overpriced stock.

If the character heats up down the road, copies will eventually start to dry up, prices follow, and print run won’t be as much of a factor.
