New Comic Book Day

Ok, time to jump in. I’ll be picking my books up tomorrow.

Hopefully my procrastination pays off once again…

If I make enough money I can buy some crows to eat…

Yes we understand what future means. We firmly believe that’s an uneducated assessment that will not prove true. Might it not trend any higher? Possible. But 90% of books that trend the first few weeks hit peaks and then settle lower. No, one is debating that.

But to say the book will go down is the equivalent of a dollar bin book is just Eeyore-styled BS. It’s like some people in here want to trash any new release that does well… that is of course unless they didn’t miss on it. I remember around the time I first joined… there was a couple people saying how books had to move at like $100/hr profit of their time to get them off the couch.

I suggest they quit interjecting their opinions on conversations if that’s their baseline. They can be safely ignored by the rest of us.

For what it is worth, my LCS has at least 10 or more copies this morning. They have limited it to 1 per family (I guess to avoid you bringing in your kid to buy up copies?) which quite honestly I have never seen them do, but they have kept it at cover price. I have a bunch of copies already so I bought the Jim Lee variant. Still on the fence if this keep heading upwards or this is the plateau before the plunge…

Well is it a long-term hold or not then? It doesn’t matter if it’s $1 or $5 in the end. The shady guy on facebook is only going to offer me 25% of what my collection is worth if I’m lucky.

It will return profit now and in the future. Depends on your own personal assessment on holding out or not to see if it rises. That’s a decision you get to make for items you own.

Edit: what does selling a collection for pennies on the dollar have to do with this? We aren’t discussing collection sales.

I’m just saying if you try selling filler books you aren’t going to get much for them regardless of cover price. You think this book will retain value, so in this scenario it doesn’t matter.

Even a $7 FMV book will sell in collection buy for a fraction of that. Bulk sales just go that way, but it’s not indicative of actual values.

Hey, I offered 40% and am not shady! Lol.

It’s not a dollar book, now or in the future.

But it will have its time in the sun, and then fade. It’ll be a far easier, and probably more lucrative sale while it’s hot, and while Snyder is still on the book. After that, you’ll see stagnation, and it’ll be a tougher sale.

Snyder and Dragotta has both signed on to be on the title for at least 2 years.

Agreed. Maybe it will be akin to Snyder’s Batman #1 New 52, just in a 2024 market instead of a 2011 market. It’ll have plenty of printings for readers. Collector-wise, no one’s going to get rich off it, but the first print will remain at least some amount above cover price.

Well…I sure can’t help shine any light on this Absolute Batman debate lol.
Both shops by me still both have plenty of copies…BUT the one shop now has all theirs bagged & boarded at $19.99 and the other 1/2 mile away still has them all at cover.

So…I grabbed yet another one at cover and went about my business…“strange things are afoot at the Circle K”.

I will say…one shop also had those Monsters #1 books at $24.00 and I had a hard time not buying one. It’s rare I miss the boat on stuff (at least that I regret) and this book sort of bugs me that I didn’t pay attention to you all.

Also, not because I think there was any real heat on it, but there were very few copies of that Crypt of Shadows comic at shops in my area. No more than 5 copies on shelves and that was earlier in the day.

I got two copies today. I couldn’t resist. The one shop that holds one per store variants saved an ashcan for me and one of their last copies. He said “you only want one?” I said no I would buy them all. He said how about 2. I said deal. Also bought some alien books and some other stuff from him.

That is a big positive.

I just sold one today at $30. Wonder how long this AB train will continue to go. I’ll have to send me wife and kids to the LCS since they are only allowing 1 per customer to scoop up some more.

Because I know how much you guys love to see me eat my words…

The Javier Fernandez comic corner exclusive sold out almost immediately today.

I got a tip from a guy in line for the marvel panel…I thought when he said it was sold out he meant the 500 copies they pre-sold. But after the panel I went to the booth (around noon) and they’re gone. All gone!

I take no such pleasure over such silly childish accusations

Of course you don’t.

Did you get any? It looks like it sold out before the general public was allowed in.

No, I don’t buy exclusives.

Sounds like the typical NYCC where publishers are selling to vendors and exhibitors who are allowed access on the floor prior to the convention opening up to the public. This is why I think no sales should be permitted until after the public is allowed in. No one has a chance in the way its setup. These publishers should deny selling to exhibitors unless they also have a general public badge…
