I’m going to give a big thank you and shout out to SAVANNAH COMICS. I’ve never bought from them before. I really, really wanted that Star Wars #11 Dodson variant. I missed the boat on TFAW. I spent time tracking, trying to get ahold of one, and during my search (just before release on a Tuesday), the variant showed up on their site, in stock, and only $25.00. I pretty much figured it would just get cancelled on me though.
Nope, great communication/email status updates, quick shipping, great packaging, and received in beautiful shape.
They gained a repeat customer. I think I’ll give them a call to let them know how much it is appreciated. Still in love with that cover and thankful for such a great book at a great price!!!
TFAW order came in today. It was decent.
Shipped via fedex and box was banged up. Overall the comics were in decent shape, but it was a bummer that a handful of them had corner issues that were from being banged up AFTER the books were placed in bag and boards. Not bad enough for me to contact support, but yeah…
My SIKTC store variant would have been in perfect shape if not for the corner crunch - at least the bag and board took most of the damage. I’ll probably end up selling this one now.
If the 4 copies of ASM 55 didn’t go through shipping, they would’ve been perfect - still in pretty good shape though.
I was pretty damn stoked to see that the single copy of McFarlane Crossover #3 variant I ordered from them was the Spawn #1 secret variant cover, until I removed the book from the bag and board and found 2 pretty nasty color breaking spine ticks on the front… of an Image card stock cover that is basically made out of concrete - how sway? If not for this book and the SITKC variant, I would’ve been fully satisfied with this order.
SW HR #1 Cover A and C were basically perfect - the 1:10 and 1:25 were decent.
Anyways, all in all - not terrible. Not amazing.
Midtown is next - that order arrives later today.
I just received a shipment from TFAW also. 52 comics and they were all sitting in one big stack, wrapped with one thin layer of bubblewrap. The voids in the box were filled with packing peanuts.
I could see when I looked in the box that the huge stack had fanned out a bit and was no longer a tight stack. The single ply of bubblewrap had ripped and packing peanuts were in among the comics.
Amazingly, the comics were mostly undamaged. I think that is mostly due to luck though. Very disappointed in this packing job.
Yeah, no bubble wrap and no wrap at all for me. Also, none of that alternating spine stuff that everyone talks about.
I lucked out on my order - the bag and board for the Last Ronin 2nd printing that I ordered had major corner crunch (makes sense since it’s the largest book on the order and therefore was big enough to be affected most by the banged up shipping box) - to my amazement, the book was unscathed.
Anyways… just a reminder to myself that I need to scale back bigly on comic books. This was mostly locked in preorders and then last minute Star Wars additions.
yall roasting tfaw packaging got me nervous, I have 2 orders on the way from them.
Nah there are some regulars on here that mysteriously always get their TFAW orders delivered in pristine condition - you may end up being one of those. Seems to be the same people though with consistent results on either end.
I’ve just toned down my expectations. It makes a bit of a difference.
@enabler that’s good! I did get a response after sending a second polite email. They refunded me for the missed shipment. But now I have 243 comics (incl 25 copies of High Republic 1) coming in one box. A year ago I’d have been fine with that, but I’ve been getting stacking roll on my shipments larger than 100 or so for past few months (since they became DC’s distributor). Fingers crossed that the guy who knows what he’s doing packed it. At least they didn’t appear to cancel any of the highly discounted ratio covers!
I will say for whatever reason the people in this thread who have had issues are a decent amount of the reports we get for anything being damaged.
I’ll have to check with the warehouse on the larger stacks being single bubble wrapped and see if there’s someone new or something that changed since they updated policy a few weeks ago.
All retailers have gotten roasted for the most part. None are perfect…
Anthony can’t even get Unknown to send him books most of the time… I think he finally got his last order but it took them 2 months or so…
On tfaw I had it set to cheapest which seems to be dhl. Never used it and I mostly stick with usps and very rarely ups. Probably would’ve been smarter to do ups but it bumped the shipping up to $13 for like 3 books compared to the cheap one at $5
I don’t think it’s too much to ask that comic book shops are able to ship comics properly.
yeah for me, DHL ultimately ends up in the hands of USPS. My last few orders were Fedex - just switched it back to DHL for the next one.
This needs to be bolded. No matter what. TFAw. Unknowncomics. Midtowncomics. Dcbs. And whoever else. Your order enough product frequently you WILL run in to 1 issue or 2. It’s the roll of the dice. So while NONE are perfect I respect the ones that correct what they can when they can and for most of us. Weve found our shops that are good for certain things. Never put all your eggs in one basket.
One thing I will say for TFAW, @RipCityGamer is at least trying to help make things better. Most of the larger companies do not really seem to listen to a few customers when they try to tell them how to make things better. Also, It takes a lot of time for large companies to make changes and get them perfect.
I’m a big proponent of TFAW. Great customer service, solid prices, and the best online ordering system out there. I have been bitten by the packing issue a couple time though. I was really excited when things were getting better there a month or two back, but it seems like things have reverted. My last three orders just had loose books in either a gemini or the bigger box. Without minimal internal protection, these are just a minor corner drop away from damages. I tend to have a few incentives in each order, so if those get smashed, they aren’t replaceable.
Thankfully, those three orders had pretty clean geminis/larger box and all books arrived in great condition. Still a concern though.
Thanks Brendon. I appreciate that. Could I also suggest separating large orders into smaller bundles within the box, each with its own bubblewrap… say 15-20 comics per bundle?
As far as I knew that was supposed to be the policy. I already sent an email to our warehouse lead asking about it and letting them know it wasn’t happening in case they didn’t know.
If you’re books are arriving damaged and not the grade they’re supposed to be write TFAW and I’m sure they will take care of you. If you’re finding corner impact creases that bumps the grade down dramatically.
The reason I use TFAW so much is I have placed many orders from them. Some high dollar orders. And more times than not the books arrive safely. I have purchased off eBay and had a guy literally tape (and I mean completely tape) about an inch of card board around a comic and slap a label on it. It was ugly as hell, completely unprofessional, and didn’t fit in the mail box so the post man left it on the ground in the rain in front of my old house. Anyway as ugly as it was it kept the book safe. I have contacted TFAW a few times but the percentage of books received damaged is exceptionally low compared to how much I have ordered from them.
