Online Comic Store Report Card

Hey I got the same free book lol

Well Superworld has made amends. They actually overnighted the package and gave me a free F/VF copy of Thor 157. Not a key or anything but it’s a free book I can likely sell for $20.

Villain Gaming AKA @faele sent me some stuff I ordered and did a fantastic job packaging it. Everything was in the condition promised too. Thanks!

TOSS comics shipping is now $11.31 for 3 or more books for me. This isn’t normal across online retailers right?

Heck no lol

And just another reason for TFAW to go on my list of places along with Midtown. I tried but nope.
They didn’t have enough when I was supposed to get it (“maybe” due to damages I was told, nobody actually knew for sure), so now incurring another shipping charge to get it. This is the 2nd time I’ve paid $8 for a $4 book from TFAW because of shipping stuff. Meanwhile, it is always books I could walk into any LCS and get.
By the time I pay for bags/boards, pay excess shipping, I can’t afford TFAW.
I don’t like basically being held hostage to buy more books in order to not get screwed with shipping (like this) if the timing of releases are even slightly off on orders. I suppose it would all work out better if I was ordering hundreds of books, but I’m not.

I’m trying to understand what happened here. So it seems like you were short one copy of HRA #2 when it originally was supposed to ship (which would have been damages or shortages, and is a pain to look up for every specific issue for CS while we’re remote), and it just now processed after we got a new copy?

Or did you only pre-order one and just now got it?

And were you on weekly, monthly, etc. schedule?

Trying to get the full picture of what’s happening to see if there’s any edge cases like this we can figure out a better solution for.

A similar thing happened to me in my last order where TFAW canceled all my star wars high republic #1, because of damages and I was only left with two books in my queue which they sent for $5 shipping.

@RipCityGamer I had a book a couple of weeks back, an older order that was never filled. Copies must have come in and as opposed to it shipping with books when they processed it shipped separate. I am on weekly shipping.

This could have been held since it wasn’t part of my normal weekly order.

Interesting. If you have time to find it can you DM me the order that it was originally part of as well? (So there’s a “start” date to it.) As far as I know stuff coming in should be treated as any incoming product and process with the next shipment (or trigger a next shipment if there was nothing else that came in).

@Brendon While you’re here, has Something Is Killing The Children #1 8th print and Brzrkr #1 3rd print orders been mailed yet ?

Not sure when the 3rd print came out. SIKTC 1 8th is part of this week’s shipment so no, not yet for that.

Thank you

Got my TFAW order today and it was perfectly packaged. Books were all great. Only one problem is that six of my books were the wrong issue number. Contacted customer service and they’re looking into it. I received copies of swamp thing #1 and it was supposed to be #2. Otherwise I’m very happy.

I’ve been doing weekly FOC orders as well as monthly Previews orders from Kowabunga Comics since my LCS shut down several years ago. They’ve always treated me right. Their pre-order pricing is comparable to DCBS but with way better customer service.

Anyway, I while back when Nottingham #1 was getting hot, I noticed that I hadn’t gotten any copies in my weekly boxes. I was sure that I’d ordered some so I looked back and saw that I had indeed ordered 2 copies. I emailed Eric, one of the owners, and he said that they had been shorted all their copies from Diamond. Even though I had been doing business with them for a while at that point and they had always done me right, I’m ashamed to admit that got a little suspicious. I even went so far as to check their ebay store to see if they had been selling any. As far as I could tell, they hadn’t.

So, I chalked it up to bad luck and forgot all about it. Then, I got this week’s advanced shipping notice and it had Nottingham #1 2x listed on it. I figured they got some 2nd prints and were getting me those as a make good, which, I would have been satisfied with.

Nope. In my weekly package I found two, NM copies of Nottingham #1 first print! Pretty cool considering how much they are still selling for.

Obviously, I vouch 100% for Kowabunga Comics.

Note: they recently rebranded their mail order side of things to Deep Discount Comics but I’m sure you can find them using either name. Get on their mailing list and they’ll send you an FOC order form every Friday and a Previews/ DC/Marvel order form every month in Excel spreadsheet form. Really easy.

I can relate, I had a Poor Boys order that was delayed due to damages to a cheap comic so when I received the order including the Dept of Truth #1 Secret (bought cheap, expensive comic by time delivered) my respect for them jumped.

Way too many shops want to act like they are ebay and not a retailer.

For smaller, struggling shops, I can understand in a way. I know what it’s like to own a business and to go 6 months or more without being able to pay myself. Desperation can cause good people to consider doing bad things.

However, scamming the customers that you do have is a business plan that is guaranteed to fail. That’s why I appreciate Kowabunga/ Deep Discount so much. They are a small shop in a small town and probably had a dwindling customer base at one time (like most comic shops these days) but instead of making a quick buck by not honoring their discounted pre-order sales on hot books, they decided great customer service was going to be their way of surviving. As far as I can tell, it’s worked and they appear to be thriving.

Are you sure it is not spelled with a C??

Positive. They make a point of saying “Kowabunga with a K”

They don’t have any mailing list that I can find and their website only talks about coming into their store for a pull list. Literally no mention of anything online. That’s why i asked about the spelling
