Online Comic Store Report Card

I spoke with the great people at TOSS comics and asked them about shipping prices. They told me that they had to increase because people were taking advantage of shipping with pokemon card boxes. He told me that shipping costs would be partially refunded for comics if you’re not buying a lot. Also, he said that you can leave them a note in the “Special instructions for seller” box if you want to combine a shipment or to hold it for a future order.

Suppose to be free though…

Can’t get more definitive on how it’s spelled than when they tell you in the slogan!

This week’s list.

I must say the things I love about My Comic Shop
1)want list and immediate notification if it comes in stock. Been able to catch some good books this way instead of being led on ebay goose chase. Also kind of cool to see how many other people are trying to find same book (demand)
2)piggyback shipping for those books on any other pre-orders, as long as its added before the Monday its going out. Can really save on shipping this way.

Just wondering what the reasoning for this is? Just trying to lock people into their orders earlier? Actually that doesn’t make sense as somebody mentioned that you are allowed to change your orders up until the cutoff date.

So the deal is that as long as you order 30 items from the current months catalog you get 35% off anything you order. FOC and in stock items do not count towards your 30 items to get that discount is what he is trying to say there. So you can’t order items on FOC or in stock items to get your discount. If you haven’t hit that 30 mark in the current months catalog your discount is 10%. Does that make sense?

I’m so confused!

I understand “what” you are saying but not the “why” … maybe because I’m a noob.

Why would items ordered from the FOC list not be priced the same as items from the Monthly Previews Catalog?

Well I imagine it is because the bigger his monthly order is the bigger his discount from Diamond is so the bigger your discount can be.

Here is a part of our email exchange about this from a few weeks ago

Thanks. Appreciate the info.

Alright, I hadn’t ordered from Midtown in almost a year but after hearing they were pumping out orders pretty quickly, figured I’d order some Black Widow #6. Ordered on April 26th and arrived today. Now I did pick Priority cause I wanted to sell these sooner rather than later but yeah, I don’t recall ever seeing a Midtown order processed, shipped and arriving so fast. Kudos to Midtown for ship times (now, if they can stop jacking up the prices on BRZRKR reprints at obscene prices, I’ll give another kudos to them).

I just got my order from TFAW of 10 books. They were packaged perfectly. The condition was 9.2-9.8 or all 9.8 CGC. Half of the lot had corner damage on the boards. I’m not sure how that happened, but the books were fine. I’m happy

Just got my last order in from TFAW, they taped the bubble wrap to the front of a bagged comic in 4 places…bro come on, how is tfaw consistently getting worse every month. Along with all of my 1:25 ratios having atleast 1 spine tic, I used to get perfect comics from TFAW.

I’ve had good experiences with Midtown and may switch to them for all orders. My TFAW orders seem to take longer and longer to get processed and shipped out. I’ve got my pre-order settings set to weekly shipments, but I’m still waiting on 4/28 street-date books to even process.

Packaging has been fine but the shipping times are terrible.

As much as I rag on Tfaw the last shipment I got arrived just fine. It took forever to process and get here but it was packaged really well this time around.

Two big Unknowncomics orders came in over the weekend… packaged lovely prepared for impact. Books are in great condition no dings even though the box had impact marks.

This is the amount of bubble wrap they used I love it!!

I’ve generally had pretty good luck with DCBS, but I have an in-stock order from 4/21 that still hasn’t shipped yet (that I paid for shipping on rather than let it wait for my monthly order… which itself arrived last Friday). C’mon

My last in-stock order with them inexplicably sat for a few weeks as well. I sent their customer service a polite email and they replied pretty quickly. Not sure what happened but that CSR got the ball rolling right away.

They haven’t replied to my email from last Friday yet; I’ve sent another one today.

edit: I’m more annoyed about paying for shipping when I could have had it sent with my month order. I thought I’d get it faster, but I wasted that money it seems.
