I think SOME stores ordered a ton. I think overall, considering it’s a first full appearance of what could be two major characters, I think a lot of stores didn’t know what was coming and missed the chance to heavily order it.
What MacCready is referring to, is in the video, they’re complaining about how DC didn’t hype this book until a day after FOC so they missed the opportunity to load up on it for their customers.
I’ve been personally watching the 25 variant like a hawk for about 10 days now and the amount of 25’s listed doesn’t translate into a massive release. Most sellers just have 1, maybe 2. Very few have 5+.
DC did hype this book to retailers Before FOC. Snyder hyped this on twitter and other outlets. Retailers were talking about this and commenting on aftermarket interest and where it might fall , well before FOC. If anything, the mom and pop stores that cant be bothered to read the internet or be bothered to join retailer groups might have been the ones to miss out. I know poeple here say this, but it is SO very true. Information is power. The more information that you have on an item of interest, the more power you have to predict where it will fall on the secondary market.
as for watching the 1:25 - I watch it for pricing to see how the market is fluctuating. Copys sold is not a marker for how many are out therre. a lot of the big stores dont put these on ebay to sell. they sell from their stores. An example of this is Newbury Comics. Those of us in new england know to hit these buys first cause they always order a ton of comics and usually have hot books for cover and ratios @ a good price. between (20+) stores im sure they ordered a lot, but they wont go and sell on ebay.
Just repeating what they said in the video. I know Snyder threw out some confusing comments leading people to believe DM 3 was the book to get.
I don’t doubt that SOME shops ordered a bunch, I’m sure of it. But I don’t think the production is anywhere near what it would have been had people known about the first full appearances.
I also agree with you saying a lot of shops will sell inhouse, but I bet you a lot of those
buyers turn around for the quick flip on eBay.
We are 5 days out from release and a TOTAL of 5 1:25’s were listed today. They’re already starting to dry up.
I remember that, but wasn’t that already pretty close to FOC? So possibly didn’t affect the orders as much. But I guess the order numbers could be shored up by backorders.
Things sell for more on Mercari because some have $10 coupons and some don’t have bank accounts to take their money from selling off Mercari so they spend a couple extra bucks to get what they want on Mercari.
Iirc and I could be wrong, but weren’t Snyder’s original comments that we would meet the RK in DM2? (Not legends).
Then at SDCC (after FOC) Snyder said he’s Kind of born in DM2 but he interacts in full in DM3.
He didn’t mention Legends much at all.
This thread started iirc about a week before release date, and us who consume everything online unlike many shops, were arguing what was the right book as all the comments didn’t line up.
I can very much see why a lot of shops didn’t go heavy as even us the speculators couldn’t figure it out. I talked to my shop the Wednesday before release and he had no idea about Legends.
@Mike_C I actually checked with my local Newbury beforehand but unfortunately they didn’t get the 1:25. From what I understand from talking to the shop they didn’t get many copies of the A cover either. Demand outweighed their supply and they didn’t think any A were making the shelf after their pulls. The ratios are spread out at random between their various shops. I was there on release day of Hell Arisen 3 and it was a race between me and another guy to get the one copy that hit the shelf.
Clearly. I’m not saying they’re listing 5 at once. I mean separate auctions too. I’ve been watching these very, very closely.
I think this book presents a fairly unique opportunity. There is just one variation. The book doesn’t compete with itself like so many books do today with all the variations and additional printings that come out. Then, on top of that, it’s a first cover appearance tied in with 2 first full appearances with a 1:25 ratio.
Even if it has a 100,000 print run, which I HIGHLY doubt, at the most, there is 4000 copies of this book out there.
That is 40% of the estimated print run for Venom 3 3rd print.
With zero competition from additional printings or variations.
