One day I’d love to own an Iron Man 55 as Thanos is a major favorite of mine. I know I’m a DC guy but I’m far from a brand loyalist. Cosmic Marvel is one of my favorites.
My unobtainable grails are Tec 27 & Batman 1. Short of a miracle I’ll never own them.
I’ve owned some really big books. Amazing Fantasy 15, Journey Into Myster 83, Fantastic Four 48-50, Iron Man 55, etc.
None has ever been my final acquisition in my quest. I liken myself to a “catch and release collector” as I’ve let all of those books go and moved on to something else. Does it make sense? No, but it saves me cents (and dollars), letting things go that didn’t create that feeling of fulfillment I thought I’d get.
It was the publisher’s promotional galley edition given to the creative team and some select retail players. I immediately snatched it up. This is one of 3 copies on the CGC census at this time. (one’s a 9.8, the other’s a 7.0).
Today, on a daydreaming streak of curiosity, I wondered if the seller had the rest of the box it came in, including the High Republic Adventures promotional galley. Turns out he did!
There are currently 4 copies of this High Republic Adventures Advance galley on the CGC census.
I have gone to some crazy lengths trying to find this! I have made calls to England, Germany, and countless book stores in the U.S., based on some intel I got that certain retailers received them. Many retailers told me “we usually shred advance copies or throw them out because we aren’t permitted to sell them.” I’ve communicated with every author and artist who had a hand in creating the comics and books. Many weren’t given a box (Ario Anindito and Harvey Talibao notably). Others were unwilling to give theirs up (understandable and definitely no hard feelings). Some members of the so-called press (see social media accounts and blogs) were similarly unwilling to give them up (again understandable and no hard feelings). I’ve communicated with every Ebay seller who ever listed the advance copy paperbacks separately looking for this. The paperbacks seem to be in massive supply, while the rest of the box not so much. The circular light-up pin made its way into circulation at some big cons like NYCC and SDCC, so I’ve seen those listed. Again, I would ask about the rest of the box to no avail.
I guess the moral of the story is that if you see a seller selling things similar to what you want, go ahead and put yourself out there and ask if they have that thing you seek. It takes time and effort to list things. Many just haven’t gotten around to it. Others don’t know people want something. It never hurts to ask.
