IMO Rat City was okay. The first half of the book is confusing AF… you’ll see what I mean. Last half was more straight forward.
Malibu Sun PSA10 just sold for $20k.
I thought it’d go for more, to be honest. Min $25k.
It’s the only copy above a 9.8. It was owned by 9.9 Newsstand.
That whole thing seemed off to me. I remember him saying it actually got damaged at or en route to PSA prior to grading and then PSA pressed it back to a 10? This was around the time that he posted a lot of content promoting PSA and raising doubts about CGC.
I don’t know the whole story but I’m just saying, if I wanted a Malibu Sun graded 10, this isn’t the copy I’d want…
I don’t remember hearing that story about damage/pressing. Just how he’s come across a lot of copies of the book, has gotten 9.8s before but held onto this because of how CGC gatekeeps 9.9s and 10s. So when PSA offered 10s he decided to take a chance.
I don’t know if we’ll see a 9.9 or another 10. That’s always the risk you run if you’re in that market as a buyer.
My own personal opinion is that such books are just a status/attention thing. It’s great if you get one in your own submission…but the differences between 9.8 and above are (supposed to be) imperceptible by the naked eye.
So you’re in theory paying 10-20x for something you can’t even see.
Oh. Cgc will certainly pump out a 10.0. Bet it’s going to be the next copy submitted. They will not be beat out.
It’ll go to one of their biggie clients, too, not some random schmo.
There is was a lot of big books in that heritage …and Indont think many performed well as it was. It didn’t do bad, but did not get the sense people are excited about buying comics again.
Modern (new) books seem to be where all the excitement is these days…
Silver age seems dead, except for maybe the super keys.
Golden Age is pricey but holds value.
Silver Age spec seems very quiet along with Bronze Age.
Copper has a pulse if you count stuff like Harley Quinn and Deadpool in there for their first appearances.
2000 and up is where all the heat is lately.
This is just my opinion and anyone can disagree, of course.
I disagree with you that anyone can disagree, because I agree with you on the ages.
Took me a second, but you’re saying you agree with my opinion? Hence, you disagree with my expectation of disagreement? Lol!
Exactly
That’s a lot of money to plop in a book. When McFarlane goes, will anybody care about Spawn in the future? Do people other than those that were there in the ‘90’s when Spawn started even care about Spawn? We are not talking an “evergreen” property here like Spider-man, Batman, etc.
I always keep wondering the same thing. If and when McFarlane passes, will people care as much about his Spawn books like they would for his Spider-Man titles he worked on? He has been in the way of Spawn getting a movie or TV show, so he has stagnated his own properties growth.
I think Spawn will endure.
100% think Spawn will endure. There are a ton of Spawn fanatics. Not to mention for kids growing up in the 90’s this was their introduction to comic books. This is their Spider-man
Aren’t all the Spawn fans about as old as McFarlane though… I’d imagine around the time Todd is kicking the bucket, most of the fans will be as well… ![]()
Na there are plenty in the 20-40 year old range
they need to do a animated Spawn series again. the 90s one was good for it’s time. McFarlane needs to let go and let others bring his IP to the next level.
This right here…
The problem with McFarlane is, he thinks he’s the best at everything, which he is not. Needs to stick to drawing and managing the toy lines of his business… His OCD control of his own property is his own worst enemy! Nobody wants to work with him or give him a crap ton of money for the Spawn movie or shows when he’s demanding he’s in charge of the script, directing, etc.
