I am with you on that. That’s not a bad way to do it as long as you cover the minimum order each month. To be honest my purchases alone cover the minimum and would save money doing it. You need to have a website up that takes credit cards in order to get it. Not so hard to build.
Because… Print Runs Don’t Create Demand. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.
If you buy something for the reason it has a “small” print run thinking that’s going to make it valuable one day, then everyone should start buying up every single indie title each week with the smallest print runs… All those boxes of worthless indie titles I drop off yearly at Half Price after I read them should be fetching me hundreds or more but I’m getting pennies on the dollar… But but… they got such small print runs? Yeah they do but nobody wants them… there’s zero demand for them.
This is why over time, as supplies start to run dry and availability of those who bought tuck away books while demand goes up makes books more valuable. This is what happened with ASM #300. There was probably millions of these printed. I’m sure some made their way to the landfills but kids bought to read, collect, throw in a box… some get pulled out of collections, some get passed around like the neighborhood bicycle… but yes, demand is steady while supply and availability are limited. The funny thing is, there’s always plenty for sale but were now also at the point where people might be looking for the perfect issue for them. Maybe they want it to be 9.8 quality and Newstand, not Direct Edition… etc etc etc.
But I really dislike when people come into the room and holler… “Imagine how much this would be if you didn’t talk about it pre-FOC”… which is just complete utter nonsense and bullshit. You can’t prove how much something is going to be and just playing the “coulda woulda shoulda” game which is about as credible as a hobo claiming he’ll pay you back the cigarette he borrowed… I can easily argue they would be cover price if no one was talking about them, pre-FOC or after FOC. Don’t you realize that spec sites and other media outlets, even the publisher (Disney mentioning their plans for this title and series in their streaming platform) is what stirred up the base to create more demand?
If we didn’t talk about this pre-FOC and if Disney didn’t do what they did, we might just have yet another SW title with half the print run that everyone is finding and buying at cover price this week. So there you go, pre-FOC does not ruin potential spec or value, it’s actually helping more than it’s hurting.
Think of pre-FOC as another term for “marketing”… cause that’s all it’s doing. And marketing works, it gets more people aware of something they might not of known about or wanted until they see it, see others talking about it and then want it for themselves.
I thought the 1:10 cover had been revealed a long time ago at starwars.com, the prior image would have been a first cover appearance. Ebay is showing the Yoda image as the 1:10 so I guess the prior was just a place holder.
Nope no image reveal until last night. All ebay sales and preorder have no image.
Let’s hope most of that 200k is the 1st print. There will be tons of the 3rd print
Curious what does half price give you roughly for those boxes… and cash or store credit?
This might have been it. I was able to get one when it first came out. I hope that is the cover. Looks nice.
Star Wars High Republic Adventures #1 (Retailer 10 Copy Incentive Variant) Yael Nath
Not meant as a personal attack but Jared is a broken record with the “it would be worth x if there was no FOC talk.”
There is no way to stop people from talking about books before FOC. I think what he is saying is imagine what he could have made if only he knew about the book before FOC. That way only he could sell copies when the book came out for massive profits.
Its tiresome.
Jared, you are welcome here, no one wants to argue or fight with you, but the “what if” talk is tiresome. We understand your point of view, but don’t need to hear it over and over again.
oh yeah the artist on SWHR adventures is a freind of mine and he did crazy good on the art. He knows how dedicated SW fans are, so he made sure he didnt disappoint
Sweet, you want to hook up a signing and sketch opportunity?
he’s on Facebook(Harvey Tolibao) dont worry he’s super nice, just message him.
Half Price does cash.
It all depends. Sometimes I’m surprised on the amount I’m given while other times it’s like… hey family, I got $50 for that short box of comics… let’s go out to dinner…
The real fun is when I drop off a box and you have stick around for your offer. That’s when I go skim the comics and try to find all the books I dropped off previously, which I can find a large majority of them. It makes me feel better about dropping such books off. It’s not worth selling on eBay for a dollar, after fees and such, normally that equates to like 33 cents revenue, it’s a complete loss. So it’s just an easy way to get rid of worthless stock not worth selling individually.
The funniest one that just happened about a month ago was they were trying to sell the signed Bendis Civil War II #1 (that had some spine damages too) for $100. I had it listed on eBay for like 3 months for under $5 without any interest but they put it in their locked glass hall of fame display trying to sell at top dollar… very humorous…
Dreamers talk like that I suppose… I guess I’m lame and dream only realistically… not these wild fantasies some dream about…
Tons? Doubt it. All the people who want this but don’t care about value cause speculators gobbled up as many copies they could get their hands on in hopes of selling on secondary market will get their copy to read and be done with it. The only reason 3rd print might be bigger is the spec/flippers hoping for any type of heat to consume multiple copies to try and sell on the secondary… and around and around we go…
We will see multiple printings but they will all be far and fewer than the first printing. Smart shops only buy what they can sell. If they got 1st and 2nd prints still available, most won’t bother beyond that unless they do pre-orders for customers so then those are already accounted for.
I see what he’s saying. If the book was just as popular with just as much demand along with 1/4 of the print run it’d be worth more. But what missing is that there wouldn’t be demand or near as much without people talking books before FOC.
That is why when I have a clump of worthless books I like to swing by there and sell them for $15 or so and buy a nice vinyl record or such.
Has anyone actually read this comic yet? Any good?
Yup. I’m talking books that aren’t even selling on secondary, will likely never be important or get a movie/tv option. I got my entertainment out of reading them. Some were good, some were bad.
I take these to get out of the way for the quick cash, even if it’s not a lot of cash, it’s still something.
Most of the time I can avoid leaving without buying something else though. My Half Price have been kind lame on finding some hidden gems in their comics, but then again, one has to go there way more often (like daily). I do know of a few who claim they hit these almost daily, at least a Half Price south of me I rarely goto.
Have I dropped off books though that eventually got a option and heated up? Absolutely… it’s like… dammit but then I get over it real quick. You win some, you lose some. That’s life.
Dude, I could have it up in about 5 minutes for ya boss man…
