@davidbitterbaum I really enjoyed it! Good introductions to new characters, good premise, good cliffhanger. I would be in for the long haul anyway as a big SW fan, but I was happy with it.
Thatâs what weâve all been explaining though, supply vs demand. The problem is, Jared goes the extra mile to spout out pre-FOC nonsense he claims ruins the value, which it does not. Without such pre-talk, the demand would likely not be as high is what others, like myself claim. Pre-FOC is just another word for marketing. How do you get people to want (and eventually demand) your products? You market them⊠if no one is talking about them and nobody knows about them, then nobody wants it.
The problem with the argument of âpre-FOCâ talk should happen after FOC is actually the same within itself, goes back to marketing. The only reason some cry foul with pre-FOC talk is they want to talk about it after FOC cause they loaded up on books nobody âwantedâ and want to offload at higher prices. This is sort of just grabbing the cash and running⊠as the prices plummet after all the speculator/flippers are flooding the market, causing undercutting to occur cause they donât want to sit on all their copies they bought cause they want to move on to the next book not yet releasedâŠ
Organic demand over time will beat out the pump and dump demand talk thatâs going on all too often it seemsâŠ
I saw the 3rd print up for order on SanctumâŠbut nothing on TFAW yetâŠam I missing it or is it just not posted yet?
They normally post new books and additional printings on Fridayâs from their past behavior.
Awesome, thanks!
I hope to read it tonight! Got caught up watching the Knicks last night (5-3, woot!) and then passed out from excitement.
Yes, thank you. But that still wonât convince people here.
Because weâre not in it for our own gains unlike other groups. The only reason to keep it mum until after FOC is if you went heavy and plan to offloadâŠ
Off topic but still SW relatedâŠwhile youâre grabbing your High Republic booksâŠif your shop has the Dodson Star Wars #10 variant still fairly pricedâŠmay want to snag it. Itâs heating up quickly, but didnât start that way so you may find a bargain.
Yeah I see. The talk on FB about the Dodson variant. Any reason why? I didnt even know I preordered it on Tfaw. Those links be calling me when @Anthony I just click n load click and load. LoL
For me personally, I just think itâs a perfect/classic cover. I missed it on TFAW, but was dead set on getting it & frankly was ready to pay what I had to for it. I kept watching Ebay and initially the prices werenât bad, but it would immediately sell the moment they popped up. I missed out on a few while trying to complete the sale.
I realize itâs the 1st Starlight Squadron, but I donât think that is a huge deal (although the name does link to High Republic).
I also like that it features Shara Bey in that A wing (Poe Cameronâs mom). Just a beautiful rendering of a classic character alongside a potential future key player.
The thing I love about comics and some coversâŠthere are times you just see one that calls to you! As corny as that sounds.
@Devildog maaaan not corny at all. I feel the same. Some covers bring a feeling that you have to have it. After seeing the cover art I definitely appreciate it more. I mainly bought it because I like the Dodsons art.
This topic sure turned entertaining haha
All Iâll add to all the spec talk is that this IS a very high ordered book, but at least from a shop perspective weâve also had a lot of new people sign up to pre-order, or ask for this to be added to their box in our physical stores. And a lot of those people are totally new. Itâs not rare for existing fans/customers to flock to something new (like everyone wanting to add Venom/Thor/SIKTC), but it is rarer to have totally new people with no prior history coming in specifically for something new.
Whether itâs 100k orders or 200k orders, I wouldnât be concerned because the demand will definitely outnumber the supply and EVENTUALLY I expect Disney to be doing more with all of the High Republic stuff if fans like it.
Because the argument is flawed and you keep beating a dead horse. Every time a book pops you show you show up and say, âyes but it could be selling for $50 if there was no pre-FOC talkâ.
As I said before it is tiring seeing the same complaint over and over again with out any factual basis. For every one you claim we can show one that FOC talk didnât hurt it. Its a moot point. Feel free to hang out and chat, feel free to disagree, but no sense in beating a dead horse.
I just went to my LCS to see if they had thisâŠand got it! Iâm thinking just to quick flip since I donât see a lot of the team appearances (or squadron) heating up too much long termâŠwhat do yaâll think?
Hey flip it if itâs not a keeper for you. Mine not coming forbath couple weeks so Iâm holding for the PC.
I planned on holding the copies I bought for the long term myself. Except the copies I promised @Gbess as his shop caused him to totally miss outâŠ
High Republic iâm holding, but the Star Wars 10 variant I think iâll just flipâŠthanks!
Itâs really hard to believe it will payoff long-term. Only way is they become reoccurring characters or are in a show. With high republic, itâs just the opposite in terms of long-term value.
