Star Wars: The High Republic

Maybe but I dont’ think myself or @Anthony give two flying shits what they’re doing over there at CBSI as a spec site… :stuck_out_tongue:

I hate any shop that does this equally. They won’t get my money for sure.

I’m all for destroying copies to make things more limited but you must have a bonfire video as proof. I know someone that burned up 30,000 copies of spawn #1 from all the collections and comic shops he bought and owned over the years.

This is the first I’ve even heard of the other one tbh. The only reason I knew about the CBE one was because of how promoted it was everywhere.

ANYONE who sells a Marvel or DC exclusive and says they’re only selling 600 and destroying the rest I’m going to be super skeptical of until I see the proof. And if they provide the proof, good for them and I’ll be the first in line the next time they have a cover I like.

Why not just sign/write on the cover? write something like “reader copy #100 of 2400” or something. Or “Thanks for your purchase! Here’s your extra copy!!”

Ripping covers off is silly…kids would rather have comics with a cool cover, just like the rest of us.

That CBSI variant is shady as heck. I was in that CBSI group on fb for a bit last year and it was basically them all pumping whatever books they loaded up on. Now they suddenly have a “CBE” variant? It’s so obvious that it’s them, and all this nonsense about ripping covers and wanting to prove how transparent they are seems to me like they’re overcompensating for something shady. I don’t trust them, and the cover sucks

I asked my youngest (7) to see if he wouod want a comic without a cover and he said “no cuz he wants the cover.” So yeah lol. Not many happy kids if they do end up doing that with the 2400 copies.

Of course they would rather want the cover. We all would.

They’re giving them away for FREE to share the glory of Star Wars with our youth. I think it’s cool personally.

They could have charged (or absorbed) like $2 more per book printed and used that money to pre-order a cover a copy to give away free and then every child gets a book with a cover! (Rather than “look how generous were being with this probable tax write off”)

Sure, and so could tfaw, midtown, unknown, sad lemon, etc etc charge $5 per cover and donate a book, they are all businesses trying to make money. They said that they want to do that for the kids, which is extremely generous, and I think we should just wait and see. I think y’all are way way overthinking this whole situation.

I think people should start donating to needy children who can’t afford Legos the extra pieces that come with every set! The bigger the set you buy, the more leftover pieces you have to donate!

They’re a business trying to make money. Scarcity drives that. This isn’t likely a genuine generosity (or they’d give a full book and not a scrap), it’s a justification for creating more scarcity. We should simply call a spade a spade! Doesn’t mean it’s wrong to buy the book; doesn’t mean it’s wrong for them to do. But they get no bonus points.

I ordered the 1st issue from Wanted Comix, arrived quickly and looks great but must be the coldest cover for High Republic #1. 300 print run and there is still 48 in stock today on the website. I bought at $15 and they are now $20 but that is still cheaper than some open order covers are currently selling on Ebay.

Their exclusive variant for SW High Republic #1 is limited to 3000 trade and 1000 virgin.

Love the lego analogy! Thanks for the free legos!.. now what do i do with them?

Typo, thanks for the correction

The whole argument boils down to this: either your a fan boy of CBSI and trust that they are going to do as they said, or you are skeptical and want proof.

In the end, no matter what any of us say or think, they are going to do what they are going to do. Even if they dont post a video or real proof of destroying them, you will still be a fan boy and defend their actions and others will still cry foul.

I will leave you with this though. Having known CBSI since G+ days, dont think for one moment that they arent looking at the aftermarket prices and not wondering " who would ever know if we just sold a few" - The temptation is real.

Yeah I dunno man, I’m just not a fan of this Goomba-looking jedi knight with one arm… Just peeped the Wanted Comix cover and to me it makes sense as to why it’s still sitting.
