Glad I got that Witter variant locked in on tfaw for under ratio at $20. My only thing is wish the outfit Keeve is wearing wasn’t so bulky looking
SMH I had the link all set up was in stock too but this was the image and I said to myself I ordered that already
Wish it was blank instead. Dammit. it’s ok though. I think Star Wars variants are just going to have to get purchased/ added and ill deal with it later.
Yeah the witter variant wasn’t even shown till after foc so it was too late. I figured Witter is a popular artist and on a popular book so I blind added it
It sat there for a while though…probably because of the wrong cover. Or people had already spent too much buying up variants of issue #1. Now Covid checks are showing up in bank accounts again…hold on tight! This could be the start of crazy again.
I had purchased the carnage/gwenom 1:25 variant (it was showing in my preorders) then the next day it was gone…so getting this one makes up for that glitch.
Yeah I’d rather a blank cover than the wrong cover. I scored ASM 55, Venom, Turtles, High republic Adventures, and Ronin ratio variants Within the 1 minute moment of @Anthony posting them but I hesitated on it. Next comes no hesitation because they are obviously sought after and Tfaw continues to be cheaper in the ratio game.
Seems like Dr. Aphra 1:25 are must buys lately. #7 is approaching $100. One suspect sale at $250 raw .
The regular cover is sold out at midtown now as well…could be a sleeper this week…or potential future flip…(new character Introduced)
Nice. I have about the same amount. Some for TFAW, my LCS and a couple of other places. I am going to put them away for the long term.
Yup. It’s part of the supply/demand equation. Also, when you go to the bank, they don’t say ‘no, I’m sorry, Sir, we can’t accept this money. This is the proceeds of selling to those with FOMO’.
If you’re placing bets, betting on a property that’s part of one of the pre-eminent entertainment franchises (Star Wars), backed by the pre-eminent entertainment company (Disney), is a good bet. Especially when Disney has stated an intent to use the publishing arm as a generator of source concepts for other media.
I’m with you on this. Very, very few will hold value. I’m surprised the market hasn’t turned its back on them already. How long until collectors look at their stack of money losing store variants, and say, geez, I should’ve just bought cover A.
I’ve been selling Harley Quinn Witter variants out of the blue the last couple weeks for decent money. Rebirth #1 it’s old now lol.
The only problem with store variants is they inflate the ratios which sucks for all comic collectors. There’s money to be made on store variants knowing which few are the ones to buy, but it’s not easy. Just like with fomo money the bank also takes store variant money. In soon enough time the Store Variant market will have killed itself with partner variants, buy 3 get 3 free, fake sell outs and copies held back. Then all these shitty websites that offer store exclusives that call themselves comic book stores won’t be able to stay in business.
I still by the occasional store variant…but it’s gotta be something I really like for my own collection. If I have a good feeling I might by one extra copy to flip…but I never buy store variants solely to make a profit anymore.
Those Scorpion Comics Crain facsimile Spider-man covers
Fair enough…but have we forgotten about the last trilogy for the franchise? Pretty disastrous by any and all accounts.
And if we are talking about betting on long standing franchises, look no further than the costumed heroes that are in those same funny books as all the ‘hot’ SW characters. I believe all the major comic hero franchises…Supes, Bats, Spidey, FF, XMen, WW…have all been around longer than Star Wars, and I believe they have also made more $ at the box office. There is no mistaking that SW is hot right now, but it has not always been that way. Super heroes on the other hand…jus’ sayin.
PS…don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy that SW, and other more obscure comic book properties, have joined the parade of what is considered a good investment for our hobby. Love SW being this hot, and you’re right, it’s not a bad bet at all. But that is beside my original point about the market trends.
I believe the stores prey on the newer collectors who are taken by the slick ad campaigns and verbage that the stores use to promote and sell their variants. Words like ‘exclusive’, and ‘limited to’. As long as there is new blood coming into the hobby, then I think these stores will retain a market for their gimmick variants. I think anyone who does buy into these for long enough, eventually does give up after seeing the long term trends. Having said all that, buy 'em if you like 'em.
And when a High Republic film has been announced at least in name.
Is a good counter-point. Kathleen Kennedy could be kryptonite for the process. Hopefully Filoni gets some input.
Might not be necessary. One D+ show has been good enough for all things Mandalorian.
Batman and Superman were on the verge of cancellation in several points in their history, only to be saved by popularity from movies and tv series. So it’s not entirely fair to compare a single story (I.e. the skywalker saga) or a portion of it to an entire super hero genre. If anything, it’s Star Wars sudden explosion in diversifying itself in all forms of media…cartoons, live tv shows, movies, A THEME PARK, that is exposing how far behind comics have been in catching on…and like with the Marvel U Disney has a wealth of stories and characters to draw from…some will flop sure but the possibilities are looking endless at the moment. And that’s a good thing for Star Wars spec…possible keeping it strong for several years!
