If only DC tv was spec’d like Marvel tv I would be retired.
I see this from the other side. I don’t think this is ruining the hobby. I think it’s making the hobby far more entertaining. It’s fun to spec on a character, track it down, get a few copies cheap and hope it pays off. Didn’t work great with Wanda, but I still enjoyed hunting those issues down and made some cash moving a few. And, this helps your LCS move a few copies that might have been sitting in a long box since 2003. I mean, West Coast Avengers back issues were hot there.
This feels like a really healthy aspect of the hobby all around. Now, a few of the specs have to hit every so often for people to stick with it.
And how is that different than eBay?
I suppose it isn’t. I just laugh when Amazon is selling something from itself for cheap and a 3rd party person is selling the same thing at a huge mark-up for no reason. eBay doesn’t really sell its own stuff.
Kids are going to grow up with Falcoln and Winter Soldier streaming like prior generations did with Disney VHS tapes. This may be a paradigm shift, I am enjoying it.
I’m just excited to watch Ewoks with my daughter starting next weekend.
I have so many Disney VHS tapes. If that absurd article about them being worth thousands was true I’d be stinking rich.
For those unaware what I’m talking about…
It’s interesting what media are valuable. VHS tapes aren’t valuable right now, but I’ll be damned if I can find a working VHS player for less than $50 right now.
My friend sent me Empire Strikes Back on Laser Disc that he found in a record shop in Chicago. I looked into getting a Laser Disc player for a laugh. LOL. Pass. I’ll just make a mortgage payment.
I’m exaggerating in both instances of course, but it’s a big investment relatively when my entertainment system is just a TV and an Apple TV right now. Do I really want to clutter it with a bulky obsolete device just for the novelty? I’ve got my N64 for that type of nostalgia.
Horror VHS tapes do make bank. That’s the one kind that you can expect to pay a pretty penny for. I have a soft spot for old media like VHS and cassette tapes.
Just like in everything, I make an exception for Star Wars. There was a DVD release before the special edition with the original theatrical versions. Those fetch a nice price.
My wife asked me why I had three sets of Star Wars VHS tapes. Duh, because one has that beautiful Struzan artwork, the other is the updated remastered 90s release, then the special edition. I can’t give up the Un-Special Editions! I also think the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith VHS tapes go for a bit because they were phasing out to DVD so fewer were made. Could be wrong. Been a while since I looked at that.
Yep Frankenhooker vhs goes for a good amount if you can find a non rental copy with a pristine box
And much like eBay, many don’t even look at who else is selling and eBay it’s (not) selling for before throwing it up.
What a waste of time.
I just watch the shows and don’t really get into chasing books.i watch these to be entertained not go out and spend $1500 on first white vision cause some people are convinced he’ll be a huge da 20 years from now
If ur buying it after happens I understand but those who purchase ahead of the shows at low numbers are good to speculate. If it doesnt amount to anything that $10-$20 gamble doesnt mean much.
I had no idea. I need to see what I might have. DVDs too by chance?
That’s hilarious. I came upon a lot of disney tapes while thrifting at a flea market. Looked them up on ebay and was like holy sh!t the black diamonds. haha in my excitement and haste I didn’t dig to deep. Got home and listed the lot for $200. Ended up selling them for $10 months later. Alot of shill action with those black diamond disney tapes. Also my favorite thing to hunt for now is obscure, rare horror vhs’s. Big bucks!
