And another aspect of FOMO is there are some who want only because its not found at Wal-Mart. Willing to bet if this was easily available at the local shop at cover they wouldnt even bother buying. I dub this the puppy syndrome. None of the puppies wanted the stick in the playpen… But when one puppy started playing with the stick, all the other puppies now wanted the stick.
Tbh, every single ‘new’ book that catches heat each week is essentially just FOMO.
It’s not like any of those books have shown any history of sustainable growth. And it’s not like the books are hot because of a popular character or a great story arc. Maybe, possibly, the latter, but impossible to be the former.
Buying a new book, at a premium, based off of a 1st appearance of a new, unestablished, character is simply fomo, imo. But I digress.
Two HR’s was also my experience.
Display looked fresh and full. All books had three copies with HR being the exception. I just figured someone had purchased the third SW pack but it sounds like maybe they were only packaged with two copies.
I’ve been to 6 Walmart’s so far and all High Republic and Gwenom vs Carnage variant 3 packs have been gone
My guess, like some of the other packs, they go two on the “hot” book hoping if you miss it you’ll buy the other fodder as a participation trophy
So … I decided to open up all of my Walmart packs, Marvel and DC.
The DC stuff was bleh.
The Marvel had some nice finds, culminating in an Agent of Atlas #1, 3rd print. Middle book in excellent condition. Marvel certainly has some hidden gems out there.
Before you ask me the cover book…I’m not 100% certain, but I think it was a Star Wars Bounty Hunter #1.
uhm yeah i struck out
guess im out!
I got the Agent of Atlas 3rd print too in a Walmart pack. I still have it; decided to hang on to it for the moment. I also got a Venom 12 2nd print in one- the one where Anne is holding baby Dylan- sold it for $50 a few months ago. Every now and then you get a good gem in these packs.
I went to 6 Wal-Marts in the Dallas area, High Republic gone for all but 1 store. Didn’t look like any other comic packs were purchased.
So now the dust has settled a bit…
Did everyone looking for these High Republic Walmart variants find one or get one through other means?
Who’s still looking or unable/unwilling to trek to US Walmarts?
I haven’t managed to get one; more on the unwilling to go to Walmart since it’s both not all close and would be the only thing I went for (and to a Walmart I’ve never been inside of…)
I didn’t get any… yet! Might check soon on eBay for 2 or 3 3-packs with combined shipping to Canada. Still on the fence though, I don’t want to pay a ton since I already have around 26 #1 first prints across the regular covers (I overpaid for Walmart variants of Strange Academy 1, although it did get me 2 Agents of Atlas #1 3rd print). But I really like the artwork on the Walmart cover…
I haven’t got 1 yet. My 2 Walmarts didnt have any.
I’ve checked one Walmart and luckily found two copies. Haven’t tried any others as I didn’t plan on moving them. So, sitting on two is the current plan.
I stopped by 3 last weekend with no luck. Tried another one again a few days ago no luck.
I’m probably done trying.
Found 2. Opened 1 and bagged/boarded it. I wanted 1 to go with all the other High Republic #1s I have. I put the other on eBay for $30. I may have to lower it if I want it to sell. The Walmart exclusives have always dwindled in price.
Found 2. Kept one for myself, sending one to drunkwooky
Nah. No Walmart High Republic books for me. Life goes on. I did score a great online deal on Star Wars Tales Vol. 1-6 for under a hundo.
Apologies if this question has already been answered, but are the Walmart packs completely random? For instance, regardless of the front comic, do I have a chance to get a SWHR or Strange Academy in the pack itself? I just bought a few and was wondering if I should open them or just sell them…
