We all hate store variants but

I’m happy to say I was never on the Mayhew bandwagon…

I’ll say this: when Mayhew was doing interiors, his stuff was phenomenal. Star Wars 15, 20. The Star Wars from Dark Horse.

I’m not as fond of all these exclusive variants being pumped out.

What’s the name and location of the store? Call them out. Let people know what they are about before they even go in.

Whole bunch of drama with the Crain Blackflag UF acetate covers sold at c2e2 lol, huge line of people that got screwed over cause a few people cut the line to scoop copies for free to flip, along with it just being a reused cover they did and just stapled acetate onto with a bunch of crap

As someone who tried to order from Mayhew and missed out because I couldn’t get the order completed between 5 PM and 5:01 PM in time, it is sad to see his response. I think I shall be passing on his exclusives from now on. Geez. Way to be a part of the comic community…

This doesn’t even look good (looks like a stereotypical 'merica Walmart shirt) or make sense to me. Seems like they are trying to entice a certain 4-letter crowd, perhaps? Or is it supposed to be a 9-11 tribute? I don’t understand at all what this is supposed to be or why it exists.

This cover doesnt fit. Miles holdin the flag? Lmao why. Even if there was no fuccery a foot this still a shitty cover design.

Seems like it should have been a Memorial Day book…but got delayed a few months.

they coudlnt use any trademarked IP so they went with the generic flag crap.

Is it trying to be patriotic or making an artistic statement about patriotism? I don’t even get the point!

Well, whatever the point was they are trying to make a couple of things are happening. 1st people are pissed that people cut the line and one retail partner or whatnot seller got 125 copies right in front of everyone. 2nd it is not a Marvel made variant and they stapled the acetate covers on themselves onto left over reprints (4 staples) (at least that is what I am reading). 3rd cgc is grading these home made variants as high as 10.0. If CGC catches wind and takes the grades away from the books they will be worthless.

I am going to start my own variant business stapling shit to covers or using color forms or something and charging $75 each.

The market is gonna crash because of greedy ■■■■■■■■ making bootleg variants and CGC grading them…

The only variants that are :100: authentic are the ones commissioned and made by the publishers.

Regardless of whether it’s authentic or bootleg, I think it’s just ugly.

It also doesn’t make much sense. Who is Miles mourning while looking down at the flag? This just kind of fetishizes the death of soldiers. As if mourning as an activity in itself is a laudable behavior to model.

Support of our troops is a wonderful thing, but I personally have a really hard time with patriotism always being wrapped up with shows of militaristic and dominating force. We have to sing “land of the free” while F-22s screech over head to show everybody how tough and violent we are. As if the only way to love your country is to act violently against enemies. It’s a problematic false equivalency that divides the country.

Plus, again, the cover’s just ugly. WhatNot sellers just push whatever cover they’re all in on together. Doesn’t matter what it looks like or what the content is. Just so long as they’re pumping the price.
