We all hate store variants but

I am definitely getting this. I think the MtG comic is a bit of a sleeper.

If you’re a fan of a less digital, more hand-painted look, this Department of Truth hits tomorrow. I’m a fan of both styles, myself.

Agreed

There’s also the issue that for a lot of exclusives, there is no required reason to do different versions like that. People know the publishers that require purchasing Version 1 to “unlock” Version 2. Most publishers let you pick/do whatever you want as long as you meet the MOQ and other rules. So saying “There’s 1000 of a trade dress, 500 of a virgin, 250 of a silver foil, and 100 of the Ultra Gold Foil!” and then pricing them as if those 100 are REALLY special is just making up rarity for sales sake. And it’s taking advantage of fans who are trying to collect all the covers for a series or artist they follow and forcing them to possibly spend more than they feel comfortable with so they don’t miss one and MAYBE have to pay more for it on eBay later.

My philosophy is there’s a version of the cover that the person working on the cover likes the most; that should be the one that’s sold.

ONE exception I think might be for some artists if you also do like a sketch or line art version because there are some artists where fans legitimately enjoy seeing/getting those as a new piece of art, but don’t double the price to make it “worth more” just make it the same price as the other cover.

For those that are still up for a very cool looking variant from tfaw:

Ordered a copy. Idk any thing about Magic The Gathering.

It’s about magical wizards who gather.

There, you’re basically up to speed.

As @drunkwooky aptly clarified, if wizards gathering is your thing, here’s one. Norwegian artist Mona Finden on this. $15. On sale Thursday at 8pm eastern.

Just so that @SpideyHunter516 doesn’t think I’m being a total ass and blowing him off.

The four characters pictured in this variant are Ral Zarek (left), Vraska, (top), Kaya (bottom), and Jace Belaren (right). They’re planeswalkers. Simply put, each expansion or block of expansions of the games takes place on a different plane: Zendikar, Dominaria, Amonkhet, Ravnica, etc. These are the magic users who can travel between those planes. The first planeswalker antagonist we meet in the books is Urza.

That’s about the sum of the basic story premise of Magic: The Gathering.

I literally thought that was Dr. Strange on the bottom, left … until it was said it wasn’t

He’s basically the equivalent of Dr. Strange skills but Rocket’s personality.

Here’s a nice cover by Comics Elite for Batman The Detective #1. I really like me some BatChopper though.

… and who is the character on the far right? Seems to be the same girl from the 1:25 variant for this issue

Any idea who this is? Federici is doing a series of 1:25 issues featuring Batman characters that include Joker, Penguin, Commissioner Gordon, Punchline, Harley, etc. Is this somebody new or one of the current Batman fam?

That’s not Frankie’s print run, that’s Marvels minimum ordering requirements if you do a store variant.

Every single Marvel exclusive is 3000 minimum for first cover, 1500 minimum for alternate cover. These stores pay approx $2-$3 per book wholesale, then sell them to you at their extreme mark-up.

@jcLu know that’s Marvels print run but Frankies PREVIOUS print runs before they stopped sharing the number had those amounts I was just going off of what they did before.

It’s Marvels print run, my store has done their own exclusive covers with Marvel as well, they had one for Silver Surfer Black #1 and Thor #1 both required them to order 3000 trade dress copies and 1500 virgin copies if you opt for the virgin. If a store is saying they have a lower print run then it’s been split with another store and is not exclusive to just one store.
