What comic YouTube channels do you follow?

I am kind of surprised that some people put themselves out there and have no clue. My “favorite” was the shows that would just read the FoC list word for word without providing any context. I could find a text to speech app to do that for me.

Or even just read it yourself?

Yeah but that requires effort.

Think about it. They launched a YouTube channel, launched whatnot selling business and knows nothing about comics.

There’s a lot of that going on in the world…

Where?

I’m talking about people in general… at jobs, doing jobs they’re not even qualified to do… I deal with it daily at work… some days it’s like… “who TF hired this clown?” :hushed:

Ha. Fair point. Most of my staff is hired by other people. One of our hiring managers is from another country. We end up with him hiring people from his country that are not qualified to do the job. It’s sad.

I got same problem at my job… one location in general, the hiring guy is doing a lot of nepotism, he’ll hire people that no one else screens or interviews and would no way in hell hire them but then we get stuck with them.

I feel like this is something that is going on more and more though, they are expecting people with knowledge to speak up in the comments. They make sure you can see each book, those with actual knowledge race to put out a comment, and they reap the profits. I’ve seen this a couple of times, the next videos always starts with shout outs to those that found books in the previous video. They can just as easily go through each book on KCC but they don’t want to because that would be more work than crowd sourcing it.

Yeah, my feelings about youtubers is exactly that, it’s just all about gaining views to make money. Half ass the work and effort and talk some nonsense, waive your hands around with a little charisma and boom, you’re now a youtube star with tons of dumb ass followers… It’s like a used car salesmen… most of the time I know more about the shit they’re selling than they do…

It is exceptionally hard to get monitized on YouTube. I stopped doing videos when they changed the standards.

We’ve never tried to monetize, but that may change soon. It’s a lot of work to do a live show each week, but we have a blast doing it. We have segments we break off into short form content with more new segments on the way. We are down to earth and our perspective is doing a weekly variety show, not so much about spec’ing. Yeah for sure. Running a successful youtube channel probably more work than my actual job. It’s also pretty hard when you’re chained to basement walls…

Probably too many "n"s in that link…

Will check it out, thanks!

Weird, it works in a browser, but not straight from the link here.

Anyways, this should be easier:

Even a few of them that I used to enjoy have become irritating to me for the most part. I think because they try to put out too many videos. I realize it is part of the game. but still.

For me, I will continue to watch and listen to anything put out by Mercenaut and Mr. Long Short.

They know their stuff when it comes to oddities, rarities, and books to keep an eye out for. I’ve done well for myself by paying attention to them over the years.

I like Bronzeville when he does anything other than “look at this collection I picked up”.
He doesn’t mention prices and, to me, that is the most important piece of picking up a collection.

Afterall, anyone with funds can pick up any collection that is for sale and overpay (as an example).

So yea all you youtubers who don’t reveal price paid, It’s about what is paid for the collection and what’s in it that matters. And the “I won’t reveal price paid out of respect to the seller” doesn’t hold water.

I enjoy this channel Moneyball Comics. The host Brendan shows books he’s picked up and tells the audience what he paid for them and when he gets them graded what the FMV is. He shows the numbers in an excel spreadsheet and tells you where he got the books (MCS, Hipcomics etc)
It’s a pretty wholesome channel and I believe he is a member at CHU here but he doesn’t post anymore. Really enjoy the content and the transparency.

Very Gary usually reveals how much he pays for collections.
